The reason they are doing the weekly drops of content is simple. The platform has tons of content. Users have shown capacity to binge several hours of content in a single weekend. So they’re hoping that they can get you to stay on platform all weekend and watch their other material. That way you watch more content through the year, get attached to more shows, feel more compelled to stick to that platform. It depends what your viewing habits are. Netflix, for example, has tons of cheap trashy TV, so for people who like that genre, this strategy works really well. For Apple or Amazon, content runs out very quickly.

Claudius I actually think its more to do with hype and word of mouth. Whens the last time you heard a lot of buzz about a new Netflix show? Yet Disney, HBO, etc with their week to week drops create major news and chatter each week. Just look at the Last of Us, it pretty much doubled its viewership from beginning to end. If that was a Netflix show it would be news for a weekend and then you'd here nothing about it for 2 years until it was cancelled.

It's very blatantly to do with people subscribing, binging then unsubscribing. I still do this regularly because I rarely watch television, but for example with Disney Plus they've started staggering their high profile "event" series to get more out of me. Also the churn of regularly unsubbing from things eventually means you get caught in the shady "inertia selling" product pattern for services you're not using.

Ultimately I think I'm slowly being driven back to torrenting everything after its run finishes, seems to still be the lowest effort solution.

A €16 6 month Real Debrid sub and the Kodi client are your friend @Burnwinter . Everything available on there at their highest resolutions available. No need for downloading anything either, and no worries about being sent a notification from your ISP for torrenting are you are just streaming from a server and not doing any p2p.

Last of Us started strong, but I thought it really tailed off.

The whole nonsense about removing her brain was totally illogical. Surely you would only need a biopsy. And why would you have to go to Salt Lake City of all places?! Strange writing. It also completely devalues the journey when the same person is both beginning and end (Firefly lady).

Even better BW. They have almost everything. Anything that has ever been torrented and cached onto that website is available. You use the Kodi client to search for shows and films and stuff. There's free apps on kodi where you don't need to have the real debrid subscription but the quality of the programme you're watching is usually capped at 720p.

The subscription is well worth it especially using certain apps on the Kodi client because you can then set it up to work like Netflix and autoplay the next episode automatically or if you would prefer it can auto load the results for the next episode so you can choose the link you want depending on your preferred resolution/size etc.

If you need a hand in the set up process I'd be more than willing to help. Already helped a couple people on here set it up in the past but they were through DMs and those were lost during the migration.

Started watching Attack on Titan - good stuff even if the titans themselves are a bit freaky.

Quick question though, dubbed or original? Generally speaking with foreign language shows on Netflix I stick with the original 100% of the time, but with the Anime it feels like a lot of effort particularly with how fast paced it is.

that's exactly the reason the wifey refuses to watch it. The titans are a complete turnoff with their freakishness for her. Which is fair, I guess.

I recommend going sub for shows like AoT since the dubs make everything seem a bit less emotive and more childish. although with other shows you're just trying to get through filler then then's no harm in watching it dubbed.

Curious to know what people do about this, actually. I usually have closed captions on even for streamed English language television these days—leave them off for films.

My wife insists on having them on for everything which is annoying for me personally, find it distracting on English language shows. For everything else I prefer the original with subs.

I watched the first season dubbed but changed to subs after that and haven't regretted it.

A lot of stuff sounds very cheesy in English while you don't get that same feeling while watching the sub. Although AoT's dub is decent as far as I remember, this is very rarely the case in my experience. I'd say that out of the 10-20 anime where I've tried both dub and sub, only Black Lagoon was better in dub, mostly due to having a cast of characters who were actually supposed to be from various parts of the world.

Of course, it also depends on your TV habits. If you're usually scrolling on your phone while watching, subs obviously aren't for you as they demand your full attention.

I watched The Rock on holiday a few years back, dubbed in Indonesian with German subs. Didn't affect Nicholas Cage's performance in any way at all.
