Corba Kai is trash with ridiculously bad acting and cringe plot line, but with full awareness of what it is. It's probably one of my favourite shows. Finished season 4 over a single weekend - I think it was one of the better ones. Nostalgia definitely plays a big part, not just for the original movies but also the simplicity of that 80s style format for a show/movie.

Agree with that goon, it's been really bland so far and the last episode was the worst of the lot. Qwiss and Quincy just liked it cos of all the sexy business.

Not seen any of season three, but - once you get into the rhythm of it, Atlanta is great. The Teddy Perkins episode in season two is one of my favourite episodes of television ever.

there's nothing else like it on tv. the absurd/surreal comedy is punctuated with surprising moments of thoughtfulness. I really enjoy how offbeat and unpredictable it is, definitely a show with its own voice. I remember stumbling across don glover on some silly YouTube sketches back in 2007, and he stood out as the star in his little comedy troupe back then. he's certainly come a long way

Its good about 1 episode in 3 imo. The good bits are very good, the rest is really up its own arse.

Only one season in but The All Mankind is pretty good, not at all what I was expecting. Thought it was going to be a trashy plot driven show but it's actually really well rounded.

New Ghosts series starts tomorrow night. Up there with Detectorists and Gone Fishing when it comes to feel good Tele.

And no, I don’t mean the US version, which looks abysmal from the adverts I see during the NFL timeouts.

Thanks for the tip - I loved Detectorists but haven't seen Ghosts or Gone Fishing - will check them out.

Ghosts is lovely television. Jo and I watched the three series in about three weeks following James recommendation. The whole cast is wonderful, but Katy Wix and Lolly Adefope are especially so, whilst Simon Farnaby is verging on national treasure status.

Really enjoyed the first two episodes. Very silly and fun. One of the ghosts mentions guerilla warfare and the caveman ghost - Robin? - says "oh, gorilla always win". Guess you had to be there, but I laughed.

It’s brilliant. I wasn’t aware for a while either just how much of a team effort it is, and how involved that entire cast are in terms of writing etc. I go through spells of having a favourite character. The newest episode was a particularly brilliant one for Katy Wix’s character, although not their strongest episode collectively. Don’t think I’ll binge the lot on iPlayer.

Gone Fishing is nothing like the other two I mentioned really, but as Paul puts it with Farnaby…Mortimer and Whitehouse are national treasures. It’s a joy.

Finally watched the last season of The Expanse. Thought it was a step up from the overly Naomi-focused season 5. Good final season, although some i's remain undotted. As I understand it there are more books to adapt but they decided to end the show here for whatever reason. That's probably while, as Goon mentioned, it feels weird that the scope got smaller towards the end of the show. Apparently the scope is massive in the next books. Maybe it's not doable with a TV budget, especially so for a show that probably didn't have the viewership to justify the budget needed. Maybe Alex is an important character for the next arcs.

Think RINGS OF POWER has lost the plot a fair bit. There are a couple of interesting mysteries in the storyline but they're failing at the difficult task of mustering a compelling serial drama that also feels like Tolkien vibe wise.

I suspect it was a budget versus audience size decision. Amazon backed this shoe big time, giving it much bigger budgets after they bought it but it never took off as a cultural phenomenon despite its quality. Everyone I tell about it just says “Star trek, not interested”. Lol.

To be honest it's refreshing politically and has a lot of great aspects, but it ain't that great overall and the alt-Trek aesthetic is part of that for me, I struggle to suspend disbelief.

Two episodes into Moon Knight which looks like a diverting little show. Any other Disney+ recommendations?

it is turning into quite a bummer, right? as you say some parts resonate (durin and elrond are probably my favourite parts of the show) but too much of it feels generic, and some of the deviations from the lore don't feel justified.

not sure how your D+ catalogue differs from the aussie version. we have alot of hulu exclusives through D+ for example

only murders in the building and dopesick were both really good

check out a special called in & of itself by Derek Delgaudio as well. its a really interesting mixture of one man show, magic and stand up

Agree with both of those. I haven't made sense of when Hulu and FX stuff is included and not, but in my catalogue I see Atlanta, What We Do in the Shadows, Reservation Dogs, The Americans, You're the Worst, The Dropout (about Elizabeth Holmes), Better Things and Under the Banner of Heaven.

Some of them I haven't watched myself yet to be fair, just on my watch list because I've heard good things.
