started watching yellowstone. not exactly must see tv, but it's entertaining enough. it's spawned 2 spin-offs already. seems to be wildly popular despite not being a favourite of the critics

Latest episodes of OZARK aren't too shabby. It's one of those shows, a bit pointless and with little to say, but decent characters and story arcs that still just permit the suspension of disbelief. Looking forward to the final seven eps when they arrive.

The Byrdes are quite loathsome. It reminds me a bit of BREAKING BAD, except they're both Walt. I wanted Walt to get punished by the end of that series, but the writers didn't oblige. I wouldn't mind if the show ended with them both destitute and ostracised, and the kids somehow getting out of it Shawshank style, or maybe even plotting and executing their downfall with Ruth.

Not exactly sure what punishment you think Walt should've gotten that he didn't get.

In real life logics I agree that Jonah is in the right, although [spoiler] it doesn't really make sense that way he is cozying up to Darlene since she's as fucked up as his parents, then again he's a kid [/spoiler] but since I don't watch the show with that in mind.. Fuck both Wendy and Jonah.

Whole show is reminiscent of Breaking Bad, but they skipped the whole "breaking" part and just went right into the main character being an insufferable arsehole. I've watched all episodes, and it's an entertaining show, but it would be a whole lot better if I actually had someone to root for. I like Ruth, but it's a frustrating endeavor rooting for her, since she's always working with one asshole or another and you can see the tragedies coming her way a mile off.

Walt gets to die saving Jesse's life and thereby at least partly to be redeemed. The way I wanted the series to end was with Skyler outwitting Walt and relieving him of enough cash to look after herself and Walt Jr, and Hank meticulously entrapping Walt and sending him to jail for twenty plus.

The premise of the show is Walt's obsession with the violent redemption of his masculinity (mortally wounded by Elliott's wealth) through proving he's smarter than everyone else, he's a toxic character so I would've enjoyed a lingering unravelling of his ego as the conclusion.

@Kurt That's true, Ruth's the "hero" as far as the show has one, but because she lacks central agency you don't get very invested in her decisions—stuff just happens to her. They've got seven episodes to sort it out.

First parts true. His parents are shitbags. But not to their kids. Well the mum is for trying to set him up, she annoys me as well. Seems to enjoy all that stuff a little too much.

The dad though seems to be trying everything to get out from under.

I think Breaking Bad would have been better if it ended two episodes earlier. Everything unraveled around Walt, his family hated him, Jesse caught in a waking nightmare thanks to Walt and wasting away anonymously in the middle of nowhere was a very fitting punishment for Walt I thought. I also would have preferred Jesse getting out of captivity himself, could have made El Camino about that.

But the last two episodes had a bit of an epilogue feel about them anyway and I did enjoy them for what they were. Think the last meeting between Jesse and Walt was well done as well.

I don't really need my characters to be likeable or good, they just need to be interesting and make for compelling viewing. I can root for a bad guy and I pretty much always sympathised with him, does that make me a bad person? Probably. I thought Breaking Bad ended quite well personally, though I didn't love what they did to Jesse's character, but it worked.

Ozark is altogether more shallow, the characters just play their part in fleshing out the plot. It's good entertainment. Marty and Ruth do their bit though.

Breaking Bad is just a sequel series to the much better Better Call Saul, wouldn't worry too much about it.

I couldn't bring myself to watch that after BREAKING BAD. I know it's acclaimed, but I was very over the fictional milieu after the original show had one too many seasons.

It really is good though, and in unexpected and inventive ways. Michael McKean is just outstanding in it. Possibly his best work ever.

Yeah, I totally believe it. I've got a bunch of shows that are must-sees to watch one day, I just don't watch enough television. THE SHIELD is perpetually on my to-watch list. Think I might try WHITE LOTUS next, though.

I really enjoyed season 2 of The Witcher. Ciri’s development was fun to watch.
