I see what you guys meant about Ted Lasso, all over the place this season.

Not a fan of all these real life football celebrity cameos. I know the show doesn't exactly take itself too seriously but still feels naff.

It certainly sounds like you downplayed it the first time you talked about it, but on the other hand I think Spider-Verse is one of the best animated films I've seen so I don't consider that a disservice. Finished the show now though and it's definitely brilliant. Kind of regretting watching the first few episodes on the computer because it looks so much better in 4K on a bigger screen. I didn't notice any pandering to the fanbase so maybe you're right that it's better not to have played.

watched a few episodes of evil. it's a bit procedural, kind of like house, but adding the element of demonic possessions to each 'case' the main characters investigate. decent so far, I'll push on with the season.

It's a disservice in a sense that even though I was just comparing the production values of the animation, the fact is Arcane is just so much more ambitious. A fun lark about town with great animation was what I expected it to be, basically like Spider-verse. What I saw instead was a searing and tragic exploration of how the system traps us all and how the tiniest human mistakes can have huge repercussions.

Currently rated 100% on RT, with 98% audience score. 9.4 on IMDB - deserving all of that.

The episodes are between 20 and 5 minutes long, if you feel ambitious you can quickly tune into a couple of episodes. Maybe there's something I didn't "get" but I thought it was just disgusting garbage

Was a bit late to the party to say the least, but finally watched SQUID GAME last week or two. Good show, found the way the season ended a little bit less sharp and worthwhile.

Was just reading a few takes on it today, and learnt that yet another South Korean show is now the Netflix #1, HELLBOUND—anyone watched it?

Didn't like Squid Game, not because of the story but the premise, but I intend to watch Hellbound. Love these kinda themes.

If you haven't seen Arcane, drop all prejudices you may have about animated shows and give it a shot. Bear in mind the first two episodes is mainly groundwork, they rely on the art to pull you along at first until the narrative really gets a grip on you.

Won a double pass to a preview screening of Peter Jackson’s Beatles series last night. Turned out it was a screening for the crew who worked on it plus competition winners so Peter Jackson was there and spoke before it started which was really cool. The series is 3 parts following 22 days of recording the Let it Be album. There were 56 hours of original footage which Jackson has remastered and turned into 3 two hour parts streaming on Disney Plus from tomorrow. For the preview rather than combine snippets of the whole series it started with about 10 minutes of him going through how it came about and the remastering process, then focused on one day (day 18 ), then the rooftop concert in its entirety. Thoroughly enjoyable as a big Beatles fan and the rooftop concert especially was awesome to see in full on the big screen. Not sure if the the entire rooftop concert has been available anywhere before but Jackson said we would be amongst the first people to see it in its entirety.

Really cool experience being at a screening with the filmmaker. Have signed up to a month of Disney Plus to see the full series.

Anyone watch Arcane?

I'm never bothered with Anime nor am I a fan of whatever game franchise it's linked to, but it is pretty good.

I thought it was far better than pretty good to be honest. I've never played the game either, but I've heard both Banduan and others say that it's probably as good or better if you haven't played.

Can't think of anything to be honest, at least if we're excluding anime. In terms of nuanced characters and world-building maybe The Dragon Prince but the animation of the first season is kind of wonky before they improved it in the following ones. It's also not edgy like Arcane so more like The Last Airbender in that it's made to attract a younger audience.
