No, I've just started season 2. I don't know why it goes to shit but it does feel like one of those shows that can lose it's way as the scope gets bigger.

The last two episodes of Only Murders in the Building was really fun - two of the best in the series. Steve Martin was hilarious, and the cameo from Jane Lynch was really entertaining.

Steve Martin is a great visual / physical comic - not earth shattering to say that but haven't seen it a lot from him in the last decade or so.

Been in the mood for mini-series lately, quite refreshing to not have several seasons of commitment. Then again, apparently Only Murders in the Building and Squid Game aren't mini-series after all, which I thought while watching them. Maid, Midnight Mass and The Underground Railroad are up next I think.

I quite enjoyed Mare of Easttown too, but agree with what you wrote in that spoiler Quincy. Squid game was good fun too. I finished Midnight Mass last night, but the last two episodes ruined what was otherwise a promising show. I wasn't particularly interested in watching it at first, but Maid was actually excellent and the best show of that bunch that I've watched recently.

Watched all available episodes of season 2 of Morning Wars. I'm still not sure what the show is trying to do this season. Yes everyone is complex but are we meant to feel for anyone? At the moment Steve Carrell's character is almost the one to feel for the most, and he's a complete bastard. Maybe it's just because it's Steve Carrell and how can you not like him? I think that maybe is a problem of casting. The show is trying to cover every base of cancel culture and metoo and it's just trying too hard I think.

I'm at the early stages of season 4 now.

I don't think they've been that bad personally, granted it's very different from the first season in particular, but I don't think that's a bad thing really.

I started to get annoyed by the cinematographic schtick by the time season three had rolled around. Also think the criticisms regularly levelled about it being "white women's feminism" were pretty justified. That scene where a Handmaiden drowns in the northern border river seemed pretty tone deaf in the contemporary USA—that's not a future dystopia, that's right now.

Maybe, but I personally try to steer clear of looking too much into these things. I think people often confuse authors who use real world social themes to create compelling stories for actually commenting on social themes. As long as it's a compelling story it's fine, I don't need it to do much more than that and I don't really like it when TV shows decide to take it upon themselves to change the original content to make it more inclusive.

Didn’t realise the new season of Curb was out, flicking through the channels and suddenly saw it on Sky. I have to say it’s gone really downhill, can’t stand the fact that they’re breaking character and constantly smiling at their own jokes. The jokes are pretty lazy too, blatantly obvious that David just doesn’t gaf anymore.

Watched 8 episodes now. It really is great, but jesus it's draining to watch.

I mean not liking that is itself political, yada yada. For me, I stopped watching HANDMAID'S TALE because I stopped finding it compelling, not because it dropped its ideological KPIs or whatever. It felt stuck in a rut and the blind spots I mentioned signalled a failure to engage with the tension and torsion between the dystopian fiction and the actually existing world, which to me was important to the project—it obviously sees itself as intersecting with contemporary US politics—and could've warranted much more far-reaching changes to Atwood's concept from decades ago. Not saying it was a bad bad show, just lost interest in it.

I thought it was still good. since a good chunk is improv, they sometimes break because the joke is unexpected, and just leave it in the show. it's been like that since the beginning

Disagree, it's become a lot more frequent imo. They break character virtually every scene now, they used to hold it together far better before the last 2-3 seasons. You don't ever see Larry and Susie arguing with each other anymore without both of them smirking at each other at the end. Larry himself just smirks the whole way through most episodes, comes across as charming rather than awkward.

Is that what the actual fuck in a good or a bad way? I've wanted Neill Blomkamp to find his way since I'm a big fan of District 9, but everything I've seen from him after that has been average or worse.

I take it back, S4 of Handmaid's Tale is pretty poor. Seemed promising but took a very abrupt turn.

I think it's actually better to have not played LoL to watch this.

Comparing it to Spider-verse is probably doing it a disservice. It's probably one of the best Netflix shows I've seen let alone an animated one. I was just coloured by my expectations of it being a well-produced version of the run-of-the-mill video-game adaptation - basically like Castlevania. It's so much more than that. Probably the most ambitious of these I've seen.

The only downsides I thought was the frenetic pacing in key episodes and a few points of pandering to the LoL fanbase. Otherwise, such a pleasant surprise.

Bad. Genuinely no idea what's going on, the first two episodes were dodgy but you could at least see a plot, then all of a sudden it turns into a mess
