Great start to S5 of the Expanse, feels much tighter. Watched all 3 episodes in one sitting, feels a bit of a bummer to have to wait for the next instalment.

This Expanse seems like a decent show. I watched the pilot last night. Think I’ll sign up for Amazon again and plough through it. I should be looking forward to festive football. But Arteta.

The first few episodes were a bit tough to get through for me, but it's one of the best things currently airing.

I felt season 1 was good overall but it really steps up from season 2 onwards.

The Expanse starts out a bit trashy with a low-budget vibe that makes you question how much time you're willing to put in. Before you know it, you're blissfully freed from all the usual and inevitably tiresome character-driven stories typical of prestige TV. Great world-building and an intricate plot that works at all scales. Really gives your brain something to sink its teeth into without being all about sex and "drama".

Couldn't agree more. The biggest issue with the first season and a half is that it's so ridiculously convoluted. The pacing is really weird but it gets a lot better quickly. It's a combination of writers that weren't used to write for tv and Syfy Channel putting a limit to the budget and the roughness of the material, I reckon.

season 2 and 3 were fantastic. hopefully season 5 can hit those levels again. season four gave me late stage battlestar galactica vibes, and that show went out sad after hitting some amazing peaks as well. one of the key things is to anchor as much of the show with strong actors as possible, not randoms from syfys b-actor black book. David Strathairn and Jared Harris are some good examples of this, Tom Jane was decent as well.

I don't know if this has been discussed here before but Tinstar has to be the most trash TV show I have ever watched in my life. And not even in a good trashy way. In the worst way possible. I only watched it because of the trailers and the fact that Tim Roth is generally a good actor but this show had the worst writing I have ever seen. It literally felt like I was watching an amateur high school student's media studies film projects. One that somehow managed to get a big production budget.

Tim Roth and Christina Hendricks tried to salvage something from the show but, especially in the case of Roth, the character they were playing were so bad it was impossible to believe anyone would act like that. I can get a police chief who is an alcoholic and struggling with his past etc. but one going around shooting his deputies in the knee (more than once)? The dude drove his truck into a packed church. I still can't believe these actors accepted to be on a shoe this comically bad.

BSG started out so great, but it peaked early and got progressively worse, by the end it just evoked anger.

I worried the Expanse was going in that weird direction, especially with Holden towards the end of season 3 in particular, but I think they've reigned it all back in and grounded themselves well since then.

ted lasso is a surprisingly sweet little show. didn't think they'd be able to stretch that concept out, but it evolves beyond the fish out of water shtick within the first couple of eps

Episode 4 of the Expanse was the sort of thing you expect from a season finale rather than an early-mid season episode.

What was the point of The Undoing? I don't get it. It wasn't terrible, I thought the acting was ok, limited by the script more than anything, but it had no depth whatsoever. Nothing clever about the plot, no real character development.

[spoiler]I've seen people mention twists but honestly, the only reason you wouldn't have suspected Hugh Grant's character is because everything pretty much pointed to him, and you're expecting a twist. I'm glad they didn't have a stupid twist because it would have undermined the whole show with some glaring plot holes, but as a result you're left feeling empty.[/spoiler]

It is. On the one hand I'm happy people aren't watching it, on the other hand I thought there'd be at least one other person with the misfortune of watching it so we could rant together. Doing it alone is no fun. I guess misery really does love company.

So finally watched the last Mandalorian. Really delivered. That final part with the dark troopers really got me. Goons a miserable sod. 😆

Perhaps I need to give The Expanse another go....I found the first two episodes to be awful so I bailed.
