Yeah Numenor will play a huge part I have no doubt. Because of the size of the budget and the success of Game of Thrones, they will definitely aim for a sprawling, multifaceted show covering Numenor, the elves, the dwarves and Sauron right from the off. What I'm not so sure about is how they will cover the Valar, if at all. That's gonna be well tricky.

Enjoying Giri / Haji on Netflix. I’m halfway through the 8 episode dram about two Japanese brothers and their entanglement with Japanese police and Yakuza families that takes place in Tokyo and London. It’s part family drama, part gangster movie, part love story, and has a lot of colorful secondary characters. Lovely montage to end episode 3 bringing the different threads together.

Also checked Dogs of Berlin recently. That was somewhat over-the-top but made for great binge viewing with the wife. It has really good hooks that keep you gripped to the unfolding web of criminality.

It is improving, the main theme and plotline of this season is making a bit of sense and coming to the fore now, and I'm interested to see where they go with it. The Boys were also less irrelevant and annoying.

Enjoying Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman's Long Way Up. They rode from the tip of South America to LA on electric Harleys. The 2 support vehicles are the first 2 Rivian electric pickups ever built, and they tested them on a trans continental road trip. That's ballsy. The challenge of finding charging points is nearly as fun as the amazing scenery.

Also watched My Octopus Teacher on Netflix which was a pretty heartwarming doco about a man's relationship with an octopus as he seeks to heal himself from anxiety and depression. Again, wonderful cinematography.

MY OCTOPUS TEACHER was worth a look, yeah, very serene and enjoyable.

Created a controversy the other day on Twitter when a queer theorist said it was an exploration of "queer eroticism" and received a wild backlash. There is arguably something slightly romantic about Foster's engagement with the octopus. 😆

I was reflecting on the production watching it and the fact that although it's presented as a one man story, he had an underwater cinematographer present when nearly all the footage was captured.

Yeah we were talking about that too. it's possible he went back and shot a fair bit of pickup stuff of him swimming through the kelp forests I guess, but it did seem like he had someone else with him a lot. He was there every day for a year, so maybe after a month or two when he thought he had a story he got some help in.

The Gogglebox crew had to watch it, which is where I first heard of it. Lol

Really? I quite liked 4 myself. Felt like they did such a good job of maintaining, and even expanding, a dense web of interrelated plot lines, while still having a clear primary arc that directly affected each side story in its own way.

I really liked season 4 too, but I get the frustration some felt over the way it scaled down and mostly focused on the events in a single location after the ring and Holden's visions had just opened up an insanely wide, new scope for the story.

The trailer looks fantastic at any rate. I also noticed that Alex only flashed by briefly and had no speaking lines, which I guess makes sense since Cas Anvar has also been left out of all the promotional stuff like cast interviews and such so far. It's like they want to draw as little attention to him as possible. Safe to say this is his last season on the show.

Yeah, season 5 had already been fully shot by the time the accusations emerged. They filmed this one and season 4 back to back. There's an ongoing independent investigation into his misdeeds apparently. No idea when it's done, but it'll have to wrap up at some point since they need to start shooting season 6. I think they're just waiting for some legal backing to fire him.

I felt like the show struggled when diverting away rom the core group. The plots involving ancillary characters just didn't hold my interest like in previous seasons

I guess I'm the opposite. The Rocinante crew are not that compelling to me as characters, but I do like them as a Macguffin for a complex network of exopolitical intrigue.

Finally got around to watching season 4 of Veronica Mars. Good stuff, quite enjoyed it.

Huh, didn't know they'd made that. Always thought the first seasons were pretty decent, give or take.
