Years And Years is the best british thing I've seen in, well, years and years. The show is basically one long (good) Black Mirror episode about how the western world decays into anarchy because technology and systems that people can no longer comprehend begin to fail every aspect of their lives. Some of the most woke tv this decade.

I wasn't so keen. The twists were predictable, I actually called it a few episodes earlier.

I also didn't like the ending. The season itself was one of the weaker ones.

Watched two episodes so far of Chernobyl, and it's really, really good. I love Jared Harris, and the overall production is fantastic too. Sorry if it was mentioned before, but there's a podcast companion piece to the show where the writer / exec producer Craig Mazin discusses each episode, and gives great behind the scenes stories and reasoning. I'm watching an episode per night and listening to the podcast the next morning to re-live the action and get greater depth and understanding. Highly recommended.

Craig Mazin has had such a weird career. In chronological order, he made: Scary movie 3, Scary movie 4, Superhero Movie, Hangover 2, Identity Thief, Hangover 3, The Huntsman: Winter's War. What naturally follows? The highest rated show on IMDB.

By the way, Meryl Streep is killing it in the new season of Big Little Lies. Haven't watched anything from her in a while, but I've read mixed stuff, that it often seems like she's phoning it in. This definitely isn't the case here.

Binged chernobyl. Good show. Obvious must watch. True detective season 1 was easily better.

It was ok, some great parts. Script was a bit weak and the acting wasn't as good as I had hoped, Skarsgard being the exception.

Been watching Stranger Things 3. Complete change in tone from season 2. Less dark, much more expansive. More romance and fun. But it does feel a bit jumpy and incoherent, with lots of characters but very little development except maybe a couple.

On Chernobyl - I thought it was very good, but not the very best as the Rotten Tomatoes score might suggest. There were a lot elements I liked such as the writer's choice of how to start the show and film how people are touched by Chernobyl. There was, however, a seeming lack of tension in several episodes even though grave danger always existed. I thought that could have been played up more to connect the viewer with the stakes. But as a mini-series, I'd put it after Band of Brothers, Roots, and probably even OJ.

On Stranger Things 3, only 4 episodes in but I'm really enjoying it. More character based and the pace is better IMO.

I thought the did great tensions in individual scenes around the plant but failed to really connect the narrative throughout to make me care much about the characters they focussed on. Maybe they fictionalised too much too, became too hollywood at times.

Finished watching Stranger Things with the family over the weekend. Took a somewhat different approach to the story, but the 80s nostalgia was still strong and enjoyable. Just a fun show.

I only started watching Veep a few months ago. I’m in love with this show three seasons in. I’m not a big comedy fan, but I’m in love with the absurd set pieces as the Vice President and her hopeless team lurch from one humiliation to another. All the more perfect because it feels like it could be real given that we live in an age of Trump White House that itself fumbles along with a cast of clowns.

Yep, I watched the whole thing though a few months back, as absurd as it is real world politics is probably beats it. Of course only 1 of the two is funny.

Inspired by my girlfriend's recent trip to New Orleans, I'm re-watching Treme at the moment (David Simon's follow up to The Wire) and it holds up really well three episodes in.

Watched ep 1 of The Marvellous Mrs Maisel - really enjoyable. My daughter recommended it so I'm hoping it holds up.
