Finally finished off The Americans. I remember complaining early on that the show focused too much on relationships rather than developing a good plot, but I have to admit it really paid off, the dynamic between Elizabeth and Phillip made the show. A show like this is so difficult to wrap up but the final season and episode is really well done and believable for the most part.
[spoiler]I could buy Stan letting them off the hook, I just didn’t fully believe the way it went down. It seemed too easy, too quick. They needed to give him more in that scene, more dialogue or a bigger reason. It’s the one moment from probably the entire series where I became aware I was watching a TV show.[/spoiler]
Also I must say, watching Chernobyl and now The Americans on the back of GoT, it’s made me realise just how bad GoT was done. I get it’s a completely different type of show that was much harder to keep as tight as these two for various reasons, but in terms of quality the difference is stark.
