Btw,have we mentioned season 5 of house of cards here? It's great to get your mind clear between any two series. ...in the way that coffee beans work between trying on scents.

Watched the first 3 episodes of Bodyguard. It’s actually quite good so far. Enjoying the pacing, the acting by the two leads, and the scoring. Much better than the vast majority of shows about security/policing agencies

It really is quite good. Thanks for those who recommended it.

If you like it then try watching Line of Duty that was made by the same people. Takes a couple episodes to get into but it gets really good. Season 2 was especially intriguing viewing.

Is there really 'nothing decent' to watch? I've got a massive backlog of shows I need to catch up on or check out.

On a slightly different note, the Dynasties doc on the Beeb is amazing.

I feel like there isn't much that entices me on these days. Not a lot of shows that are really all that entertaining despite the hype some of them get. A lot of shows hit with a "wow this shows great" but by season 2 everyone isn't bothered. So many shows that are just dour shite hitting the same tropes we've seen now for 20 years and that have been done better several times by now.

I'm gonna try Homecoming this week though, seems to have received almost universal praise.

I agree that there's not much on right now, but like Goon I have a giant backlog of shows I've heard good things about and not watched. Band of Brothers, Peaky Blinders, The Shield, The Thick of It, The Handmaid's Tale, Louie, Ash vs. Evil Dead, The Expanse, Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, Patriot, The Haunting of Hill House, Sopranos, The Wire and Rectify are examples, and that's only the top of the list from shows I'm not currently watching. And yeah, Homecoming is also on my list.

I get what you're saying though, I'm not really into a lot of TV right now either. I watch more movies or play on the PS4 nowadays. Shows like Better Call Saul and Legion are great, but I tend to put on an easily digestible binge like Sabrina, Daredevil or some comedy.

Sheeeeettttt I just circle back to the classics that I love.

I have no problem watching The Wire every other year, and I'm probably a year or two from watching Breaking Bad and/or Mad Men again. Sprinkle in a run through of True Detective here and there, and that's plenty for me.

Lady has me watching The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, which is on Amazon. Pretty good story of a Jewish women aspiring to be a comedian in 1950's New York.

For me there's plenty of decent shows, many better than decent, without having to resort to re-watching. You'd have to have a pretty narrow taste in shows to feel like there's nothing to watch in my opinion. If we're talking about a potential classic, then that's another matter.

I never get tired of The Wire either. When Lester goes to the boxing gym and finds the poster with Avon on it, it's all on from there.

Mad Men was a lot better on the second watch for me.

I've wanted to re-watch both The Wire and The Shield but never get around to it.

The Wire - second season aside - is fantastic to rewatch. It actually becomes far more compelling in that you end up with far more emotional investment in characters. The losses, in particular Wallace/those tied to Bubs, are felt so much more. The characters wavering on the edge - Stringer - are also far more visceral.

Fack, probably need to binge it again.

Give me season 2 over season 5 all day. The first couple of episodes can feel quite clunky when you're binging because of the drastic shift in focus, but once it becomes clear what is actually happening at the docks it's a riveting season. How about Frank Sobotka for a character wavering on the edge? With Avon temporarily out of the picture The Greek is a nice change as a completely different antagonist.

I think there's a few decent characters introduced in Season 2, but they don't have a lasting impact/role in the series. So they become a fleeting aspect of an otherwise very tightly wound and connected series.

The Greek is solid and McNulty has some great moments in Season 2, but I don't find the crew that work the docks that interesting.

Couldn't have said it better myself. To be fair I remember on my first watch I thought the second season was the weakest too but after my third re-run it became one of my favourite seasons. I even liked Ziggy somewhat at my last run 😆

Mine tried to make me watch it too, I won the fight like two episodes in. Bored the life out of me
