Arsenal vs Chelsea (Community Shield) Sunday 3PM

Interesting to see that all on board here had Coq and Ramsey in our heart of midfield for this match. The only lineup Santi's name appeared was on HomeSteak's list, and as LW.

Personally I'm a bit torn between the 2 choices but I believe we will see 3 of them starting in this match.

Yes.

I'm expecting to see Ramsey on the right for this one. It's a tried and tested formation and Wenger will want to put his best formation to get one over Moron. Community Shield have not much bearing on the league title but a win here could do wonders for our confidence given our record vs Moron.

I'm expecting a lineup like this:

This wouldn't be my preferred line-up. But, this is the most probable starting line-up against Chelsea.

Like most said, I'd prefer to have Giroud not playing because he has nothing on Terry/Cahill and he is too profligate (especially, in current form) for a tight game like this where we will create very few chances.

that's why i would rather see Theo & Ox starting.. they can create running space and not allow Terry/Cahill to focus solely on Giroud.. Ramsey on the wing does not accomplish that. i hope we dont see that lineup

So Chelsea are playing a friendly on Wednesday in Washington against Barcelona.... we should be much better prepared for the CS game, no excuses.

I had Santi as DLP, Ramsey on wing.

Theo has a good record against Chelsea and is capable of scoring even whilst playing crap, he has to start somewhere. Giroud is usually crap against Chelsea, but I guess having him around could open up space for Walcott and Ramsey to grab a goal.

I hate this game. If we win, all I'm gonna think about is how it's essentially a good performance wasted since it's not a game that matters. If we lose, well thats not good either.

Ramsey is not playing on the wing anymore guys. That hellish experiment is over. If Santi plays it will be as a holder.

we cannot afford to lose to Chelsea. if we win, Mourinho will say that it is early pre-season, but if we lose it could demoralise our team. we need to get the Mourinho monkey off our back, even if the game is relatively meaningless.

To my mind losing the Charity Shield to Chelsea would have zero impact on our season just as winning against City had zero impact last season.
I remember the exact same discussions taking place here prior to the City game last August.
The notion that it would be a springboard to launch us into the season was rapidly disproved by subsequent performances and results.
It would be really annoying, irritating and it would take some of the gloss off of our pre-season but the suggestion that a loss would derail us suggests that we are fundamentally fragile.
I don't think we are, clearly it'd be excellent to get one over on them but if we don't it'll be forgotten by Monday, if it's not then players and managwnent have priorities wrong.

I want to win, to make it a pre-season treble.
I want to win, so Cech would have 3 trophies from 3 matches.
I want to win, so Wenger would finally beat Mourinho in a competitive match

Dont think it would have any negative or too overly positive effect on our season, but it would be another small step in overcoming the deep emotional scars we have from the poverty era and the inferiority complex we still have vs Chelsea (on the pitch).

Its not really a competitive match though. And they're not really trophies Cech is going to consider in his collection of what he's won.
