Even if the game has zero correlation with Premier League performances, I don't see why we shouldn't be desperate about getting one over Chelsea in a cup final format. There are no trade-offs here. If Chelsea take this lightly, good for us - let us have the community shield over nothing please.
A loss would obviously continue our mental block against Mourinho. We may not have started well, but, we did well against City last year after that early win. Given our poor record against Mourinho, a win here can only be a boost to our confidence while preparing for the Premier League encounters against his team.
I am, definitely, looking at it as a competitive match and not a friendly. It might not hold the significance of a title decider in the league or a cup final, but, I'd surely give it more value than a run-of-the-mill league match.
