Not that I've seen much of him but based on last season and what most people have said, he has struggle to play as a wide player and I don't think we need or will sign another player to play in central midfield.
Mario Gotze
Götze played wide for Dortmund too. It's not his starting position that has seen him fail to live up to expectations at Bayern imo.
I concur.
Even for Wenger there's a limit to the amount of mercurial midfielders needed for the squad.
He's already got a headache to accommodate those that we have when all are fit.
That said - it's Wenger and he mad
He wouldn't be right for the balance of the squad, but he'd raise the level regardless.
Who would be better in terms of squad balance? We're scrapping to even find two solid wingers in the squad we've got. We just played Ramsey and Welbeck on the right flank for the better part of a season.
Let him play as a narrow left sided attacker and put Alexis on the right. They can switch during games.
Gotze is brilliant at quick combinations in and around the box, which is something Mad Wengs lurves
That is an attacking lineup that is good enough to win Premier League. Proper top class on seven starting positions, with the prospect of having Bellerin joining that group next year.

I think someone a bit more direct personally, like Reus. Also, Jack, Ox, Alexis, Theo and Danny is a decent line up out wide I reckon, we just need another top top player somewhere across the front three to raise the level.
Gotze is just as direct, he's just slower.
Direct probably the wrong word, but there is definitely a difference in their approach to attacking.
Yeah, I think Götze and Wilshere are quite direct myself. As are Ramsey and Alexis. Özil makes excellent runs in behind. I worry a bit about Alexis at CF but I think he could figure it out, and the closer to goal he gets the ball the better. With the technical quality in this team we wouldn't have to rely on the center forward in the buildup as much.
Everybody in that entire XI is comfortable on the ball, and Ramsey/Götze/Özil/Wilshere are world class technicians who could play Wengerball at a very high level. We could get back to dominating football matches again. The Arteta and Gabriel slots are question marks.

I had no idea he was that good.
I remember a few years back when we were linked with Götze during his time at Dortmund, same summer we were linked with some other really good players, Hazard was one of them, and K.laus said "they're all pub players compared to Götze", at the time I didn't know Götze's game very well....but K.laus was right. His techncial ability is other wordly.
As good as our best players are, Götze is perhaps more talented than every single one of them. And for his all faults, you know Wenger would make a neglected talent like him into a superstar. It doesn't seem super likely that Bayern would give up on him already and I'd rather a center forward I guess, but we should 100% make room for quality like that.
If Koscielny and Gabriel can make a partnership work then we're in real business with that lineup. We have to add one more big piece this summer, whether it's Götze or Benzema or whoever. The Premier League is a real possibility next season if we take the opportunity.
I'd take Reus over Götze if there was a choice. Marco Reus is IMO more what we need in that he looks to attack space behind the back 4 quite a bit more than Götze. Götze is primarily a player who wants the ball to feet, whereas Reus much more looks to get the ball into space. We already have too many players on any given game day who want to receive the ball to feet, and that is IMO why we too often seem too static in attack.
Gotze was brilliant for Dortmund. Haven't really played at the same level for Bayern, at least in the games I've seen him.
Think he'd be brilliant here. He's the type of player that thrives with responsibility and being one of the key players in a team. He'd be that here.
Oh just great ANOTHER midget for our team.
Here is the starting line up for next season......
Götze is less important for Bayern, and less of the play goes through him there. It is only natural that his impact on games has gone down at Bayern, because he sees less of the ball.
If we signed him, I think it would be more like at Bayern for him rather than what it was like at Dortmund. Players like Ă–zil, Alexis, Ramsey and Wilshere would still see more of the ball than him I think. Especially the former two.
He'd see a huge amount of the ball with us
He'd link so beautifully with Ă–zil....jeez can you imagine them two after a few months playing and training together?
Jack too
We'd score Norwich at home type goals every game

His hairline is receding by the year though isn't it Dules
This is houseboat-ish but I asked Jan Aage Fjørtoft on twitter whether we had any chance of getting Götze or Reus this summer and he said no.
We're definitely after strikers only, no wide players after what Wenger said about Podolski.
Good. Striker is more important.
If there is an opportunity to sign Reus, Götze or someone of that ilk I think Wenger will do it regardless of what we have.
Definitely.
Rex wrote:If there is an opportunity to sign Reus, Götze or someone of that ilk I think Wenger will do it regardless of what we have.
Spot on. It's the right thing to do as well, it's incredibly difficult to sign top level players so when you have the chance to sign one you do it, then worry about how they fit in after.
Wenger comments in Podolski are in the context of him not being good enough to get game time ahead of the ones we already have.
He said the same thing when asked why he didn't go for Depay, He said he plays wide where we have seven or eight players who can play there.
Yep and Depay wouldn't get his game either because he's not Gotze, Reus, etc Rex is right, if we can get a top player Wenger will sign regardless of where he players.
Bayern are not easy. Thankfully, we have time.
Vidal going to Bayern could help things on this front.
Shady Shakes wrote:Vidal going to Bayern could help things on this front.
Nah, that'll help us get Alaba. Gotze is already in the bag.
Juventus apparently. Hope we are in for him or have someone other than Aubameyang in the target scope.
gotze at juve seems an odd fit
Ooooh, he looks like a man that's not happy with how things are going at Bayern and fancies a move. Wenger wouldn't be able to resist the temptation, surely? You can always find room for a player as good as Götze.
Can't imagine Wenger letting him go without putting in a bid himself. He's a proper Wenger player.
Not sure he would choose us over Juventus to be honest. Hopefully our German contingent, and money, will put us over the line in that case.
We don't need another midget.
It's Benzema or bust is transfer window as far as I'm concerned.
No Messi for Alf then peeps
