Hoeneß' case was so blatant they didn't really have a choice but putting him into jail, Lord knows they tried to avoid it.

Apparently Real are sniffing around Icardi (who hasn't been a starting XI fixture under Mancini this season) because of the whole Benzema situation.

Icardi is an idiot but he's very talented imo. We would have to lock away the other players' wives but I'd tear your arm off for him.

I rate Jovetic highly but he's a crock at other clubs already, if he signed for Arsenal he'd arrive in a coffin.

Disagree about Icardi not creating space for himself, he creates chances with his movement every time I watch Inter (last season at least). Jovetic is clearly superior technically but Icardi's finishing and positioning are miles better, playing in front of the likes of Özil, Cazorla and Alexis he'd be looking to get in behind and finish our chances instead of dropping deep. We'd be setting up the way we do with Walcott but with a better, more complete and more reliable forward leading the line.

32m for a 22 year old striker who was Italy's top scorer last season would have been cheap a decade ago, in the current market it's a steal. Also every big club has or had one of those fancy Argentinian forwards, we need to step our game up.

Jovetic is keeping Icardi out at the moment at Inter, let's start there. The main issue with him was always whether he'd get over the injuries or not.

I think people generally need to look less at goal tally and more at what the player actually contributes with. Otherwise you'll end up signing guys like Immobile to replace guys like Lewandowski. If we want a fancy argentinian then let's heap everything we've got on Correa instead in the summer and pray that he doesn't suffer a bad injury in the next two years.

Jovetic is keeping Icardi out because he is a better fit at CF for Inter. Their midfield options consist of Medel, Brozovic, Kondogbia and Guarin, says it all really when Guarin is their most creative option. Their wingers in Perisic and Ljajic always try to cut in and go for goal themselves instead of looking to feed the striker which means they need a #9/#10 hybrid up front which is what Jovetic can play to a really high standard when he's firing.

Compare that to our setup which would allow someone like Agüero to score 40 league goals easy. Pretty much everyone here was in agreement that we look much more fluid in attack with Walcott because of his movement rather than Giroud's more static play which involves him a lot more in the build up; I reckon Icardi who offers similar movement and pace but more versatile finishing would take us up another level. Correa would be the dream obviously and I've been high on him from day one but I don't think we'd pay the fee he'll command in a year or two. Also you'd fear for the boy looking at our medical department and the fact he's had a heart operation already.

The problem is that the comparison doesn't really hold up. Jovetic isn't static and slow like Giroud.

We love to look at everything in opposites when we compare players. It's a way to simplify an argument. And so the difference between Walcott and Giroud is boiled down to the fact that one of them makes runs in behind the defence while the other exploit the space in front of it. The difference between Icardi and Jovetic similarly is that one's the creative type while the other one's the goalscorer. And so forth.

... But it's not really true. The reality is that Jovetic is asked to play a different role at Inter than Icardi because he can handle it. Much the same way Benzema doesn't rack up the numbers because he is asked to do a big defensive job at Real Madrid, but he would easily score 30 league goals up front for Arsenal. Jovetic isn't asked to be the creative hub at Inter because he can't play any other way; it's just because he's blatantly a better player than Icardi. He's useful in a number of systems whereas Icardi limits them to a single one the same way Giroud does with us.

The comparison between our game plan with Walcott instead of Giroud was simplified but that's what all comparisons do, break things down for simplicity's sake. Jovetic certainly isn't static but he would have to reinvent his game because at the moment I couldn't see him play the way that would get the most out of our team, i.e. as a finisher rather than another player who looks to create chances for others. We already have a couple of players who are better than him at that, it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to have a player up front who isn't as creative and looks to score first.

In the end, as usual, it really boils down to whether you rate Icardi or not. Jovetic is a player I would have loved at Arsenal before his move to City (actually even before he did his ACL at Fiorentina for the first time) but the last thing we need is another player with an extensive injury record.

I don't think Jovetic has played over Icardi this season besides the last game vs. Roma. Mancini's been trying to make them mesh but it hasn't really worked so far. It seems like Icardi plays the best with Palacio. This year, Mancini's main tactic has been to go 1-0 and park the bus (with the most uncreative midfield ever), which has made it difficult for the players in the front 3 to shine (except for Jovetic). I don't think it's been wise to give Icardi the armband and he's been affected by that.

If he ever did come here, he'd score plenty of goals, but I feel fans would still want a better forward.
