Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey enjoyed an up and down season in 2014/15, as he was forced to play a restricted role due to niggling injuries.
However the Welshman admits he is setting high targets for next season and that he is aiming to emulate former Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard on the pitch.
Ramsey is keen to improve every aspect of his game in order to become a complete midfielder who can seemlessly do every job required of a modern midfielder.
Speaking to Bleacher Report, Ramsey said:
“I think a top-class midfielder needs to be able to tackle, get up and down the pitch, pass, create opportunities and score goals.
That’s why I try to do everything, that’s what I judge my game on.
If you look at someone like Steven Gerrard, he combines all of those elements.
That’s what I want to [emulate]… so that’s what I base my game on.”
On becoming one of the best in his position, Ramsey added:
“I want to keep on improving as a player, and become the best…one of the best midfielders in my position in the world.
In all ways I want to be better, in all of these things that top midfielders can do.
If I progress the way that I think I can, the way that I have been, then I believe I can achieve that.”
Ramsey will be aiming to complete a full season injury-free next term as Arsenal look to mount a serious title challenge following yet another FA Cup triumph.
