Thought this fucker would be key in us winning the league in tandem with Ozil, but he's been so inconsistent, and even in the good games he's not managed to ever get the level we saw a couple of years ago.

that was a purple patch that wasn't seen before or since. too many want to believe that's his real level and not what we've seen since.

It's not like he's a striker that happens to be in the right place at the right time for a few months, the guy was sensational in every aspect, incisive passing, skill, tracking back, winning the ball. The goals were just the icing on the cake. For the second half of the season before he was already putting in really good performances just without the goals.

He had a terrific game against Barca four days ago and today he looked like a midtable Championship player. He's been infuriatingly inconsistent lately.

There isn't a midfielder in the world who plays consistently at the level Ramsey did that season.

yes he was doing all those things, but don't get it twisted the goals were the cake. and for some reason he's the type of midfielder that draws inspiration from the goals. it seems he was motivated to do all those other things by his goal scoring form. can't hit a barn door? well there goes the rest of his game.

Yeah, without the goals he was certainly still a very good midfielder but not a world class one, even back then we struggled to control games with him in CM.

Not even talking about older guys like Modric or Rakitic, someone like Verratti is on another level to him. So is Pogba who has taken the step up from a player with flashes of brilliance like Ramsey to a guy consistently stamping his authority on games.

Not sure what was up today, I've been critical of his shit first touch and passing in the past but today there were several instances where he clearly didn't give 100% which is unforgivable and completely unlike him, even disregarding the occasion.

You have to expect more from a guy coming into his prime agewise. He had a much better game against Barcelona but even there he's had a couple of braindead moments that could've and probably should've cost us the tie before it eventually did.

This lack of concentration and consequentially inconsistent technique is evident with loads of our players but with Ramsey's case is the most blatant.

That's not quite true, and I don't think his game was perfect in that season anyway. It's not like he ever reached someone like Alonso, Verratti, Modric kind of domination as a midfielder. He is just not that kind of CM that dictates the entire game, but rather very hit and miss. He was great but he wasn't world class that season, contrary to what we liked to believe and big it up to be.

Agree with this. It's common in football to overestimate a goal scorers performance once they've scored

Poor today. Think it may be worth taking him out the first eleven - we have to twist to see if we can find a formula that works

If Ramsey's purple patch counts for little and I do think he has been very poor this season technically, I wonder what we will think of Coquelin in the summer. Did he just ride a wave of momentum and form too or is that his real level? He hasn't found the same level consistently this season even before his injury.
