Starting "CM" next season - Ramsey vs Cazorla?

And yet Southampton didn't struggle to bring the ball out of defense with a midfield of Schneiderlin and Wanyama. I think you are under rating Schneiderlin a bit, but that is neither here nor there really. Get another player in then. The main thing I'm saying is that Cazorla's inclusion in central midfield opens up a different set of problems.

Southampton finished 7th or so, we're aiming for a bit higher than that.

We should've brought another midfielder in quite clearly, Arteta cost us the game yesterday, not Santi. But true he isn't viable in CM, when our team is in shambles, but he's the best option we've got, so there's little we can do about it. Wenger can do a lot though.

Cabaye looks like the one we should have picked up in the summer if we wanted a good deal, not Schneiderlin. He would have made a nice stop-gap to have around.

Stop gap for what exactly? I don't disagree on Cabaye really but what are we waiting for now? I mean we have Ramsey who's a quality centre mid coming into his prime but Wenger wont use him there so if we exclude him what would a stop gap be for? Why shouldn't we just go and buy a top tier centre mid if Wenger wants Ramsey elsewhere?

I'd start Ramsey too obviously. I don't disagree with the idea that we should buy top tier, but Cabaye instead of Arteta, Flamini and Rosicky is instant squad improvement.

Flamini and Arteta as squad player is a really poor joke from Wenger, why we didn't sign another DM is maddening. In fact if Coqelin hadn't of turned up we would still be play one of those two idiots in each game.

He didn't sign a midfielder because he has four centre-mids that he considers to be starting quality before you even reach Arteta and Flamini.

that's my issue. cazorla shouldn't be considered an option there, and jack can't be relied on and is seen more as an attacking mid or wide player anyway. ramsey and coquelin are the only proper centre mids we have imo

With Coq out, I think we should play Ramsey and Cazorla in MF, with Gibbs and Sanchez on the flanks.

Better than Flamini and Cazorla in the middle IMO. Though Wenger seems to be hinting that Chambers will play there...

Reading the above I don't know if to laugh or cry. At this point, the only hope I have is Ramsey coming back in explosive form.

Regarding Wenger's options, he might also ponder Ramsey and Flamini, which means he'll push Ozil to the right :doh: (Santi wide is not an option, even to him).

It would be typical Wenger to move Özil out of position when he's in his best form in years. He just can't resist an opportunity to cripple the part of the team that does work.

Since Ramsey went down injured against Bayern at home we have played 6 games; the result is 2 wins, 1 draw, and 3 losses. We miss him terribly, both defensively and offensively.

We miss Aaron badly, both offensively and defensively. Folks need to stop looking at how many goals he's scoring to judge how well he's playing.

We miss him, but you have to look at the context of the 3 losses out of which one game is where he will never start against Sheff Wed. Bayern was different class the other day and the difference was so big it might not have mattered even if we had Ramsey as our defence was shit.

I would say the only game we missed him was against WBA away and even then we should have won with the chances we had.

We missed him massively against Spurs too. Our midfield was physically dominated by them and Ramsey would have changed that dynamic completely.

Oh yeah and that definitely.

Although the thing is, Wenger always struggle against Pochettino's side playing a high pressing game. We haven't won against them under him bar a league cup. If only Giroud didn't miss those sitters. Tiny margins.

Wenger says "To balance a bit defensively, I use Ramsey on the right. That's where I will certainly continue to use him."

Also of note:

"Cazorla and Ramsey is a bit [attack-minded] and you know in my mind I have seen that the turn of our results last season was when I went for a bit of stability and put Coquelin in there. Now I am a bit cautious on that front and I do not want to unbalance the team.
"Arteta is not a Coquelin-type but he is a tactical player who loves to sit now because he is less [focused on] going forward.
"In my mind I always had Arteta and Flamini and Coquelin. But Arteta was injured so I played always Coquelin. Now with Arteta and Coquelin both injured we are of course a bit short. That’s why I play Chambers for 10 or 12 minutes to see how he positions and we are happy because he can do it."

Cazorla-Flamini midfield it is :/ :/ :/
