per ornstein it looks like we have a bit of a hiring freeze until we an shift some players off the books. who should we turf to free up space for 1 more marquee buy?

There are a few comments / articles that are indicating that AFC can not afford to re-sign both Ozil & Sanchez to even a 250k+ pay rise, because of the restrictions to the % your wage bill can increase by in relation to your revenues.

A couple of points on this
1 - player sales will both reduce the wage bill AND increase revenues;
2 - if they don't sign a new deal then they do not become an issue.

To achieve point 1 we need to sell the high wage earners that contribute little,
which then also allows us to continue to pursue Mbappe & C0.

to be clear those wage restrictions apply to how we use the epl tv money only. we can hypothetically increase our wage bill by an unlimited amount as long as we have non-epl incomes to support it eg. gates, sponsors, commercial deals. now, clearly the most obvious non-epl income would be player sales, but its not linked to some universal 'hard cap' on how much you can increase your wage bill

i think our problem is more about numbers. we just have too many bodies in the squad

Exactly. The wage ceiling arguments are strawman points from people who haven't a clue about the business of financing football. These are the same guys who will use your topline revenue as the only guide for how much you can pay in transfer fees. Ignore them. We have lots of headroom.

Agreed & thanx = I'd forgotten to add that it was about the TV revenues.
The articles had been playing up the issue because we lose about 35m from the lack of CL Group Stage revenue.
However I think it's do-able but it means we need to trim the fat and have a proper 25 man squad that's fit for purpose, as opposed to AW's usual design of having a match day squad supplemented by development players to gain game time for their development.
