Not even just no comment. Could say he has an injury, that he's doing some extra work with the fitness coaches to get up to speed next season. I mean there are a number of things we could have said. You don't air your dirty laundry out for everyone. That's one thing we've always been classy about doing and this is a disappoint to see that we are acting like this as a club.

Koscielny was a starter last season, so that's a rather big assumption on your part, Klaus.

I'm all for transparency and honesty. All the cloak and dagger from the club before only served to drive a wedge between the club and the fans in my opinion. Wenger was the king of it. You could never believe a word the man said. Yes, some of that is playing the transfer game, but you got the impression that both he and the club would lie about anything if it avoided a shit storm or would make them look bad.

In this scenario there's no way the club would have made a public statement. Wenger would have made up some rubbish about a calf strain keeping Koscielny back at Colney, some of the journos and Twitter ITKs would have whispered about Koscielny being on strike, no one would have believed it of him, Arsenal would have granted him his free transfer, the fans would have gone crazy at the club for doing so, not knowing Koscielny had forced them to.

Transparency and honesty work much better in my view. The fans need to be able to trust the likes of Sanllehi and Edu. That they're working for the good of the fans and not against them.

I think that's a ridiculous perspective, and again you're letting your bias and presumptions run wild.

He's the one that has gone on strike. It's not great from either side but I fully support the club calling him out.

Not really. The guy is trying to hold the club to ransom so he can get his way. Asking to be let go for free when we paid him during his rehab last year. I'm glad they exposed him for his actions. He deserves it. About time we stopped being soft on these players.

We should lie to protect a guy who's striking when we almost literally have no defense next season?

Honestly can't believe that you're defending Kos on this, Klaus. Nobody forced him to sign any contracts with us, but demanding us to break it when we have no defense and no money is ridiculous.

I think we should have just dealt with it internally. Shocking from Kos but think we could have handled it better than making a statement like that.

Koscielny is doing his utmost to help those interested French clubs into getting him for free, against us - the club where he's captain and spent 9 years. The club that stood by him during his injuries and when he was shit in his early days. This is how he repays us in the end. Going on bloody strike? Prick.

Arsenal did not need to make a scene. This is a pre-season tour. Nobody expects a full squad, and fans who follow transfer rumors know that Koscielny is looking to move to France. The easy path is to keep quiet, take the kids to America and complete the move.

I understand that a player is obligated to fulfill his contractual obligations. But we are talking about someone who is done at the highest level, and has served us well including playing through injury. We should let him focus on completing his move in an amicable way.

Really disappointing from Kos. He's made himself the villain, the club have no obligation to cover for him and should absolutely have called him out. I was looking forward to seeing him play in the flesh, now I just want him out with the rest of the shitsters.

Shouldn't have come to this. Bordeaux want him they have to stump up the cash. Koscielny should know this , he should carry on as a professional and let the two clubs sort it out. I suppose he is looking out for himself , and the fans and the club don't matter. Sign of the times?

other clubs have been taking advantage of us in the market for years. it sucks that kos is where we decided to draw the line, but it had to be done. hes not the first player to ever want out. the deadline is a few weeks away. the club could have simply told him they are working on granting his wishes, they need to complete other business first, he needs to do the job hes signed up to do, and they will do everything they can to accommodate him. instead, he did this

Why would he not start? The shit show that we got at the back I think he would start. He wants out beacuse he can get a 2 +1 years deal in France, on big wages(big wages if he gets to go for free). I get what you are trying to say, and the club maybe could have dealt with it internally. But at the same time, we should not make him a martyr. And it was not an argument that they had internally. Most reports if not all of them are saying he told the club this week that he won't go to the states, some of them say he told us yesterday.
Personally I would have no problem to release him for free had this happend a few years a go, as I think he is done at this level and is on some huge wages. But it's better for us to keep him around for the season and sell and then replace one of Mustafi/Chambers. And Kos would be replaced by Saliba next summer.

I'm glad the club have let us know about this. They shouldn't lie to the supporters to protect someone acting in this way. Kos signed a multi-million pound contract and now he's trying to demand he's released from that contract on terms that don't work for Arsenal. Thats not acceptable.

Have seen a few headlines this summer about youngsters / teens being butt hurt that they did not get playing time in the seniors last summer & supposedly wanting to leave as a result = WTF you're not even 21 & still wet behind the ears, sit back down and STFU.

Perhaps not directly related to this but another aspect to this is Kos is also our Captain post BFG. He's not the first to reportedly go on strike and to actually miss competitive games, but the timing of this in these circumstances is perhaps more damaging.

Latest reports have him considering buying out his remaining season.

Two potential reasons for the club to air the dirty laundry being so as to make a statement the new structure will not be fucked about with, and secondly there are reports that the club intend to withhold any loyalty payments & bonuses due had he remained.
