Would be another instance where we look make marginal improvements(?) where we can. I like Nacho but if he's on his way out, it's clearly because the club don't rate him - he'd easily extend a contract if we put a decent offer on the table.

I know nothing about Ghoulam but he's a 6 ft 2 fullback who's supposedly coming of a strong season for Napoli. I can live with that.

Same. And I think LB is the easiest position to upgrade in the squad. A bit of extra height at the back would be nice too for set pieces.

I'd much rather Monreal stay than risk bringing in a new guy that doesn't know the League and hoping he can hit the ground running.

The thing about a risk like that is you'd inevitably keep one of the current 2, probably Gibbs, so you'd have an adequate LB anyway while a new guy adapted. We shouldn't settle for ok players because we'[re afraid to take risks anyway. We'll get nowhere without taking risks.

Well, yeah, I know it's a bit of a cliché but remember when we signed Sagna despite Eboue being a perfectly decent RB?

Monreal's a good player but he's not irreplaceable - it's not like we're trying to upgrade Ozil or Ramsey. And because this transfer is not forced on us, chances are Wenger really rates him if we do sign him.

We also have a very short team/ squad, getting height in a position like left-back would be a huge plus.

I think Monreal should stay for now. Loan or sell Gibbs instead if we're bringing someone new in. Odds are he'd fetch a good price somewhere since he's homegrown and coming from Arsenal. Sunderland or Palace would probably be ready to splash on him. Maybe even Newcastle or Villa.

I think Ghoulam is a good player personally. Not sure he's ready to start for a club like Arsenal, but he'd be an upgrade on Monreal defensively and an upgrade on Gibbs going forward. Monreal's passing in midfield is pretty important to the attacking buildup though. Ghoulam or no Ghoulam I think he'll still start next season.
