They collect their player data from a larger player database that belongs to a third-party company. Change the numbers and a different data set gets collected. We used to have a similar system (maybe we still do?). I remember people finding a blank page for Shevchenko on our official site the day before he signed for Chelsea and getting hyped up... thank god that one wasn't true.

We're probably going to piss away next season if we sell him, but I'm not sure we can afford to turn that down. He won't have any sort of value in a year, and who knows how long he'll keep performing. Hopefully he has 3-4 seasons left, but we can't count on it.

Lacazette as our main goal source is the stuff of nightmares though. What did he get, 13 league goals this season again? Back to Giroud level up front.

If we were even remotely serious, we would sell both of them and use the proceeds to help build a new team.

Sure, but seeing how we're trying to sign all those old players Emery has worked with we'd probably end up with Carlos Bacca as the replacement for both of them.

if we qualify for the CL, i'd keep him. if we don't, we have to consider that kind of money

i'd be gutted if he went tbh. he's one of my favourites 🙁

Gazza, I don’t think qualification for Champions League should instruct whether we rebuild. I said elsewhere, if this can get us two high caliber wide forwards, then it’s worth considering. But we would still need to get a good playmaker behind them. Basically, Lacazette isn’t on Aubameyang level. And the midfield compounds our problems by not feeding the frontline enough balls. These moves might address that.

Just don’t take the money and turn it into Denis Suarez. It needs to be our Coutinho moment

Lacazette has been way better than Aubameyang this season. The latter has looked poor for the majority of the season if we're being completely honest, goals or not. They have different playing styles (duh) but I dont think it's unrealistic to expect Lacas tally to go up if we replace Aubameyang with a winger who would feed Laca instead of the other way around

He has several 20+ and 25+ league goal seasons ffs. Allow the Giroud comparisons

So, I think if you sold Aubameyang and brought in a Neves / Pepe (eg) combination, it might work.

Lacazette becomes more of a focal point
Both Pepe and Neves would do a better job of also feeding him
And Pepe can fill in with a bunch of goals as well
All these players give us at least 5 years of service

As for the Giroud comparison, it's cute, but Lacazette is better

Aside from Cesc and maybe Thierry I don't think any of those are particularly bad deals from our point of view. I'd also say 7 of those ended up being bad signings for those purchasing.

He achieved that in France, which is completely irrelevant to what he has produced for us. I have a lot of time for Lacazette, but let's call a spade a spade. Giroud scored more league goals than Lacazette in his first two seasons. There's no way we should sell him or Aubameyang, and such talk is outlandish, as they both make up for each others weaknesses, which is the hallmark of an effective partnership.

I never liked Giroud, but looking back, if he had Aubameyang as his partner, I somehow think he'd be more than a cult legend.

Laca is hardworking and has become essential to our build-up play but i don't like that he goes through damaging barren spells which is one of the reasons, like yourself, i didn't think Giroud was good enough as our main striker. I also agree with you that, on paper, it seems Giroud and Auba may have complemented each other.
As for the present, i feel upgrading them is way down the list of requirements.

The problem with Giroud was his lack of pace hindered our style of play, otherwise he was a very good striker.

It is not a case of who should be sold. It is more of a case of, if sold who will come in. That is the problem.

Selling Aubameyang for e.g, is not great, but at his age etc this would be smart business. If you turned around and landed Brandt, one of the Barcelona departures (Coutinho, Dembele, Malcom) then you couldn’t grumble.

They are talents out there, and with City and Chelsea out of the running (and supposedly Liverpool not interested in big money moves) there are enough forwards for us to target, but seeing who we were linked to in the January window was laughable.

I'd push Laca out the door if we got a 65-70M bid to be honest. Not sure he brings that much to the team that we couldn't accomplish by playing slightly differently. Neither of them are perfect of course, but at least Auba scores goals regularly and hopefully will continue to do so for the next 2 years. Would much rather take the money and re-invest in a high quality WF like Pepe and then use some of our transfer budget to bring in a younger one like Brandt / Bergwijn. I think that's a more sustainable solution rather than replacing them both in 3 years.
