He wouldn't sell when they were at their most valued in the market.
That said it wasn't just down to him as I don't think we ever re-invested transfer revenues directly into the team once the stadium project began, which means that even had we sold high to build as seen with LFC, the funds would have gone towards other projects like training and medical & then the pre-tax profits & Cash Reserves before being spent on players as the next season's budget.
Possibly the biggest load of BS we were fed at the start, was the notion the transfer funds would accumulate from one season to the next to generate a kitty to offset the poor cash flow of the 1st decade of the stadium - even more so after the move. It was the reason why there were so many comments made about the size of the Cash Reserves.
