I think for deals like that you'd need to be turning Laca in to Pepe plus someone else. If you let Laca go and get Pepe then we'd have to buy a back up striker too and depending on who you sign it means having to use Auba more.

team is unbalanced, and Emery is constantly playing variants of back 5 to accommodate for lack of natural wingers
as per the xG numbers I shared yesterday, Aubameyang is clearly underused. He is probably good for another 4-5 league goals a year if played centrally and fed by a playmaking winger
Pepe is the top playmaking winger in France and outscores Lacazette, so would cover his goals.

Ideally, I would still push for another winger like Fraser (or better Under), and then put Nelson, Nketiah etc in the rotation. Maybe you keep Welbeck if doctors clear him.

I agree the team is unbalanced but I don't think you can expect Pepe to come from France to England and maintain his level of goal scoring, Lacazette didn't, Giroud didn't, even Hazard has never scored as much in the PL as he did in his last season in France. And Auba can barely managed the games we already have him playing, if we try to increase that he'll break and then what, you want to be choosing between Nketiah and maybe Welbeck if he's fit. Even if you could guarantee Welbecks fitness he's a utility forward not a genuine back up striker.

I'm 50-50 on selling lacazette. we'd need to spend the proceeds on 2 powerhouse to get the most out of auba, and that would still leave us with plenty to fix elsewhere in the team. Big risk

I like the dual scoring threat. I just feel to make the most of these guys, we need to adjust to a 442 or similar formation. How do we do that in the transfer window?

Short answer is we can't. Not in 1 window. Not only would it mean needing new cbs, an lb, and a winger, we'd have to bin our cms because they're nowhere dynamic enough as a pair. I think we should aim for a 4231 replete with proper wingers, and rotate auba and laca as needed. auba can play wide as a backup option

We went from 68 points to challenging for the title after selling our best player of all time. We probably won't do what Claudius asks, but it's not impossible. It'd require a lot of good fortune (Holding keeps improving and is consistent, same with Iwobi, Koscielny does the job one more season) and a new LB, CM and RM.

There are still only two great teams though, so comfortably third should be very doable. United have an already proven Premier League flop as a manager, Chelsea can't buy players and Spurs are Spurs.

I meant the recruitment landscape as well. Nicking a cesc or rvp isn't as cheap or easy as it used to be

Getting a reliable goalscorer is going to be hard. I'd rather move to a 3-5-2 and bring in a couple of CBs and someone like Doucoure to replace Xhaka. I'd rather have 2 proven goalscorers in the team. Will also help get the best use of Kolasinac and Bellerin. I don't think we are well set up for 4-2-3-1 to start with. Let's get Ozil and Mkhi out and bring in someone who can either play behind the strikers or as an inverted winger and help score and be creative - Pellegrini perhaps?

Talk of 70m for Laca is simply under value IMO, let alone that this is the same club that has paid over 100m each for Dembele and Coutinho. Simply put Barca would be buying Laca as the successor to Suarez, and for mind they can pay Coutinho type figures to do so - as they paid about 54m for Malcom and he hardly plays FFS.
70m + Malcom and I'm prepared to sit down at the table.

We should quell talk of Lacazette. After looking at our spend, we should keep him and look to extend him middle of next year.

Good points. Laca and Auba are pretty much all we've got, to let him go we would need money that can change things for us a in a serious way.
