Iwobi can actually play though. I'm with Capi on this one. Think it is way too soon to sell Iwobi. He is already a useful squad member, at what has to be very reasonable wages, and he clearly has potential to develop quite a bit further. Whether that happens is up in the air of course. I would advocate signing him up for an extension, then have a serious think about his long term future with the club in about 3 years.

Latest talk has it that he is up for a new extension after having a meeting with all the key players.

i'm fine with an extension as long as the wage increase isn't so arsenal level ridiculous that he can't be sold in a few years if he's stagnating.

I definitely think players who've come through the academy should be given a little more time to prove they can contribute positively towards success.

Slight edge for Sterling but its close enough to make Goons point stand IMO. Especially considering the team Sterling is in and that Sterling is one of the best players in the league.

Unlike some of you, I'm not a keen on Perez so I'd be glad to see him go. Surprised if it's for such a nothing team given he was being linked with Lazio only recently, but surely says at least something about his level?

We reportedly named a price of £7m and Lazio have backed off. If he ends up at a newly promoted Italian club then that does surely say something about a lack of serious interest from decent clubs?

Problem is no one is really willing to pay 90k to a player of his profile outside the Premier League, and within the PL his stock has obviously fallen too much. Same with guys like Ospina etc.

It's a shame he didn't just go to Newcaslte last year. Forced the issue with Depor and was rewarded by getting a load of abuse. It's odd though as I reckon he'd be a great signing for a load of PL clubs.

I want someone to tell me precisely what is wrong with Perez. What attributes do you think he lacks that makes him more useless than Iwobi and Welbeck?

I haven't noticed anything much wrong with him as a footballer compared to Welbeck!

But it does seem like he's allergic to playing football in England.

By his own admission he had a personality conflict issue of some kind with Wenger and was excluded and disgruntled, and wanted to leave. And Laca was also involved. That already makes it hard for him to ever come back.

Emery arriving as manager opens the door a fraction, but if he's still damaged goods in the eyes of his teammates it's better just to let him go.

He can't play at point in this League and he can't play wide. Top clubs or clubs generally playing two up top in this League won't happen.

For me, he lacks proper speed and athleticism and doesn't have the technical ability to make up for it. He's a decent player, no doubt about it, but I'm not sure how well he'd do at, say, Everton or West Ham.

He can play wide though. Superb final ball and knows where the goal is. A more exotic Walcott who can contribute numbers. Why get rid?

Walcott, even today, is twice as quick and athletic. Don't see the comparison. Reminds me a little of Podolski and he never really fit anywhere here either.

Yeah, I don't see the Walcott comparisons either. For all his flaws, Walcott was much better at showing for the ball and getting in behind defenders. Perez reminds me of an inferior version of Eduardo, better suited to playing up top but forced to play out wide.

I think he would have had a better Arsenal career if Emery had been in charge two years ago when we bought Lucas. The Wenger of the past 5-6 years was allergic to players like him. If you couldn't play with your back towards the goal you were a waste of time. I don't think it was Lucas who was horrid as much as it was our football and Wenger's rigidity.

The reason Lucas needs to go right now is because he's 1) thirty, 2) clearly worse than both Auba and Lacazette, and 3) incapable of playing on the wing. It makes no sense to keep him just to block Nketiah from getting a few cup games and the odd league appearance.
