Can James play the deeper role?

Don't think he's ever played it but if we are interested then i can only think its because Wenger feels he could play that role. (and presuming one of Arteta or Flamini is leaving) He is a very rounded disciplined footballer but you would think we would just sign a natural holder/central midfielder. Maybe its his versatility and the fact he's free. I don't know, it just seems a weird fit.

I certainly don't see the point in adding him to the squad to play wide as i feel we have many better options.

He should go to Liverpool.

English and average, the quintessential Liverpool signing.

I gotta say, I don't think Milner is average. Ambitionless, possibly. I was disappointed when he went to City to effectively become their version of Nicky Butt. But he can play when he wants to. Whenever I've seen him this season he's been very good, particularly in the Champions League games. I don't think their fans want to lose him.

He's decent but Liverpool should not sign him, he's exactly the sort of player they don't need.

The sooner this gets done, the better. So we could close this thread and forget that we're being linked with James Milner.

Almost as bad as being linked to Welbeck.

Almost.

Liverpool is a no brainer for Milner.

He is the only better linked club that he will start for.

He's not as bad as people are making out. Whenever I've seen him for City more often than not he does a very good in the team. Not the player for us but I think he'd do alright for Liverpool. While City want him to stay he doesn't play enough for them, fair play to him if he leaves to get games.

I've always liked Milner, not sure he's what we need though.

I wouldn't mind him, but he's more of an attacking player than the Coquelin alternate we probably need.

Basically I'd take this as a squad transfer on the proviso we were bringing in serious quality in two other positions.

A typical Liverpool purchase. An English average and overpriced(150k p/w) player.

All his good performances for City were from from the wing(though he was rarely played as a CM), and Delph starts ahead of him in CM for England.

Official to Liverpool pending a medical. Good signing for them.
