Rumours doing the round about this. UEFA apparently wants to have an NBA-like all-star game. Top three Northern-European leagues vs. top three Southern-European, aka a team consisting of players from Bundesliga, Premier League and the Russian League vs. La Liga, Ligue 1 and Serie A.

I myself think it could be a really cool way to end the season, if done 1-2 weeks after everything else is done.

Could be a cool idea, but only when there's no world cup or european championship.

e:

Ronaldo - Ibra - Messi

vs

Sanchez - Aguero - Robben

Fat chance any club will let their players take part in that game.

It'd be shit. Without a real competitive edge it'd be worse than an International friendly.

Fuck no. I puked a little bit in my mouth thinking of that.

Qs said it, Quincy.

Would be great if they'd add a keepy uppy competition and a Rihanna half time show.

Really, fuck off with those gimmicks.

I love the NBA all star games. Top players having a good time, trying to put on a show for the spectators. I'd watch such a game for sure.

Thank you. Not a chance in hell that I'll buy Qs' idea that the world's greatest players would be less motivated in a match against each other with the whole world watching than in a friendly against some crap team like San Marino or something.

No, he didn't. Khanuppet said that all all-star games in every sport are awful, while Qs said he didn't like the idea because there would be no competitive edge. If you've ever seen a NBA all-star game, you surely won't think that's a problem.

Not sure it translates to football, but the NBA all star games are usually pretty relaxed affairs for 3 quarters, but then professional pride kicks in.

They play with way more risk than usual. It comes at the price that they're worse off defensively, but it's much more entertaining to watch, which is the point of these games.

They're all just high scoring affairs because no one can be bothered to defend. I can only speak about hockey and basketball but these games are pathetic for anyone who actually likes defense. Everyone's just trying not to get injured. Let's not even get into the fact that nothings on the line so what are you even watching for? Nothing that gets done in that game will be remembered by fans for more than a week.

Waste of time idea. So FIFA will be all over it.
All star games are a terrible mess. The idea is especially bad in football where games are naturally low scoring affairs. At least in basketball you get to see a few windmill jams and alley oops before the farce is up. And which football player needs yet another game to play?

Really? You think the worlds best players would care more about playing in a yankified bullshit exhibition game than representing their country?

This is an idea for people who don't really like football. All those Asian guys you see on twitter and forums who supported United for a few years but now like City and will go to Chelsea next year.

If you want to see "skill moves" you may as well just play FIFA 15 because its not real football any more.

I actually hate the idea of the all-star game in general. Those American events have been losing steam for a long time now, and it doesnt really translate well to football. Too many leagues, too many countries, too many players.

See this as a complete non-starter and to be honest, should 100% be a non-starter. No need to try to American-ize the game (and thats coming from an American)

I find all-star games utterly pointless, but in any case it would be interesting to see Messi and Ronaldo in the same team 🙂
