The other issue is that the alternative is to stick with what we have because there isn't really anyone else there that is a clear improvement and is also attainable. I don't think that would be a disaster, but if we have a rare opportunity to improve on what we have we should definitely take it.

Jose said he doesn't want to sell to an English club. Why are we even discussing this

“One thing is José Mourinho and another is Mr Abramovich, and another thing is the board, because the board is a little bit of me and a little bit of other people,” Mourinho said. “If it was me, if it was my decision, the decision is Petr to stay. That’s it. It would be my decision for Petr to stay. Even against his will? Yes.

“I think that the club is more important than the player and, as was true this season, the club needs two very good goalkeepers. Without Petr this season, I don’t think the club would be champions because he played six important matches in the Premier League. Without these points, we probably wouldn’t be champions.

“For me, decision number one, Petr will stay. After that, second point, to go but not in England. The option I don’t want is for him to go to an English club. But, I repeat, I am just the manager and he means so much for this club and what he did in this club, I think he deserves everything from this club. If the club decision is different to mine I will accept it.”

While he says he wants Cech to stay and would make him stay if he had his way, the decision isn't his. If the media reports are to be believed there is a feeling within the Chelsea camp to let him go wherever he wants. His family is settled in London and he has given them 10 years of service. Unlike fans they have a personal relationship with the player and despite losing his place his attitude has been spot on for Chelsea.

Think it's been a while since Cech was at his best but he's a clear step up from what we have. Maybe he could have a late career similar to van der Sar at United and give us 4-5 really good years.

That is exactly what I am hoping out of this as well.  This isn't Cech from 2005 but quite clearly far superior to any of the keepers we currently have.  I'd put Cech in the top 4 keepers of this league If he gives us 4-5 years in that time we can try to look for a younger replacement for the long term.  Also with his experience at the back it will be a calming influence for our defence.

The ideal scenario would be for us to pull a Chelsea. Buy Cech and some kid with a tonne of potential, then loan the kid out until Cech is finished.

We already have Emi Martinez who has loads of potential. Keep Ospina as a steady Number 2 and loan Martinez out to a Championship team for the whole season next year.

Is Martinez really THAT good? He's only a year younger than Courtois.

Dean seems pretty sure this is happening. Would be a great signing tbf.

That time of year again where these wankers from twitter cash in. How's Geoff these days?

Kike says it is not happening!

I'm staying firmly on the fence until I hear it from the Arsenal Horse's mouth.

Asenjo is having a very good season for Villarreal too.

The last thing we need is some other la Liga cunt like Almunia who stays on his line because high balls and challenging are illegal there.

De Gea was also a "la Liga cunt"..

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho had admitted he can’t stop Petr Cech from joining Arsenal.
The Gunners have been strongly linked with a move for Cech recently, and there were claims yesterday that he is 99% confident of making the move.
Chelsea sanctioning the move is the final 1%, and speaking after the 3-0 defeat to West Brom, Mourinho admits the Blues won’t stand in his way.
‘If it’s in my hands, he would never go,’ said Cech.
‘He would never go to big clubs and fantastic teams, big candidates who want to win the Premier League.
‘I would never let him go, but it’s not in my hands.’
Cech would cost £10m to sign.

We should request that Jose drives him over to us. 🙂

I think this would be a pretty spectacular stunt if we managed to pull it off.

We wouldn't just get one of the better keepers around with over a decade's worth of Premier League experience; someone who would be a clear step up from what we have - we'd also snatch him from right under José's amazing technicolour dreamcoat.

Could easily be referring to United..

I spoke to Viktor Kolář, Petr Čech´s agent:"Arsenal, United or PSG are all top clubs. And Petr would like to join one of them - definitely."

i hope we make a big effort. would be a very astute signing, and wenger would finally get one up on jose

could see him going to PSG instead of us or Utd.. Jose will do everything in his power not to sell to a direct rival. Not to mention Cech is an upgrade on Sirigu...
