I don't think it really matters who we're keeping. Odds are we'll have to sign a new first choice keeper anyway by the time Cech is too old.

Ospina is worth keeping in the short term because he's the better of the two we've currently got. Szczesny is worth keeping as a backup because he's younger and homegrown. He might improve if we get in a better goalkeeping coach too. Ospina doesn't look content with being on the bench, which is another factor to consider.

Klaus, I think your last point is the important part. If Ospina isn't happy being second choice then fair enough. He came here knowing he'd be second choice but confident of overtaking Szcz. Which is a good level of confidence to have. Shame we'd be losing him. Like you said he is the better keeper. Plus the age difference isn't much. Think there was maybe a year or two between the two.

Yeah, I think there's about 2½ years age difference between the two. That's nothing in goalkeeping terms.

Hopefully by the time Cech is pushing on we could have identified and already started grooming his replacement to take over. Not going to be easy though. Top quality goalkeepers are probably even harder to obtain than the already difficult take in getting a top class forwards.

Cech can do for us what van der Sar did for United. Game changing keeper that will block book points that we have throw down the drain since losing Lehmann.

If Twitter is to be believed Ospina wants to play week in week out with a club in the CL. He also wants the same wages he is currently on hence why we will let him go on the cheap. I liked the guy, came in and apart from last few weeks was generally a reliable player.

Like you say with Szczesny, he is home grown and maybe with a better coach and training under a keeper like Cech will improve him. Also helps that he happy to be behind Cech right now, don't know if you can call that loyalty or lack of ambition....

I find it unlikely that the club has spoken to Ospina at all since he is preoccupied with the Copa America.

We are all so desperate for a transfer that we are making this Cech signing seem like we are going to sign Messi 😆

It will be one big anti-climax if/when we eventually sign him.

I blame social media for turning fans into transfer muppets. Everyone wants instant transfer news now.

A week in a summer transfer window 2015 is the equivalent of 4 weeks 15 years ago.

I must admit, signing a top 10 player in the world in his position does excite me. A lot.

Why would it be a anti-climax? Im sure people will explode on social media. Its been brewing for weeks and weeks and more than 90% people are extremely happy with the potential signing of Cech. Only controversial people who are looking to provoke a reaction with their opinions or people who are miserable with whatever is going on at the club may not see it as a huge transfer and a potential game changer for us.

Can see how I am coming across as a joy kill but the modern transfer window does my head in. It's akin to consumerism and low level consciousness. Following the summer transfer window (esp on twitter) is the same as watching big brother or eating a pizza-nothing good can come from it.

Going back to Cech, I do not not think it's controversial for someone not to rate him. Top 10 in his position in the world? I would not even say he is top 5 in the Premier League. Anyway, top 10 in the world in reference to goalkeeping is the equivalent of a top 10 in the world right back-doesn't have much value as the quality of players in these positions has declined so much in the last decade.

It's just seems getting excited over the potential signing of Cech seems like getting excited for the sake of it as there no Arsenal escapism left to offer at the moment.

Well the people getting excited by it are the people who do rate him as top 10 in the world. So it's understandable that they'd be excited by it, particularly if they also don't ospina and Szcesny as, from their perspective, we're making a significant improvement on the team

You feel this is anti climatic because you don't rate him but clearly others do. I think it's hard to compare this to mindless fan behaviour because People weren't this excited when we signed Debuchy for example and ultimately it's just down to the quality of the player
