Is it me or is everyone getting excited about an over the hill keeper because people like signings for the sake of signings?

There is no other real Arsenal transfer news so this why this one seems so 'exciting'.

If we actually do sign him how many pages will his opening thread be on 'Arsenal talk'. Maybe 4, 5 at max.

Nothing compared to when we even signed Welbeck last summer.

Hopefully we won't sign him though.

i know us getting one over chelsea and jose hurts, but let it go man. this would be a very good signing. ;D

i don't feel of it as getting one over Mourinho. he will survive. he will have the best goalkeeper in the league next year after De Gaea returns to Spain. we will be much more stable in the back. question is what do we do with our goalies. do we sell Szczesny or relegate him to 3rd?

If we sign Cech it means that Szczesny is gone, no way will Wenger dump Ospina after only 1 year.

i would miss Szczesny but he might actually be a useful sacrifice. guys who have had stunted development, e.g., Wilshere, might look at Szczesny's departure as a warning from Wenger that he will no longer entertain lack of professionalism. that itself might be the kick up the backside Wilshere (and others) will need to reach their potential. if the Pole's departure does that, then it would be a worthwhile move in addition to bringing in a superior goalkeeper

Pretty sure it would spell the end for Szczesny at Arsenal. I know he got the nod for the FA cup final but he did finish the season as second choice and out of favour with the Weng.

Might he not go out on loan? Plenty of clubs in need of a good 'keeper round Europe. He needs to play to develop, and I think he could still become very good.

Bit awkward to send him out on loan now, isn't it? As a player it wouldn't really fill me with confidence. Ospina is only a year older than him as well

Nah, he's still young for a goalkeeper. And that particular position is easier to defend having senior players on loan, as it can only be one number one. I wouldn't find it awkward if he were to, say, play a year in goal for Aston Villa.

The Arsenal fan TV guy says he spoke to Gazidis last night at the kit launch and he admitted we were in talks for Cech and that things were 'delicate'. Seems a good guy, don't think he'd make that up. So, it's not just a lot of hot air after all.
