Why is it frightening? Players like Coquelin and Giroud haven't been judged over a long enough time frame yet.

Is it frightening that it's close for player of the season and that the two final months may decide it? You must be frightened a lot.

Agree with that article in general. Mentioned about Bellers too.

Not too sure about Azpilicueta, but other than that there's not much to complain about tbh.

I think Azpilicueta is only in there because of a lack of good LB's. Guy's been pretty average this season, which makes it even more weird that Filipe Luis doesn't get more chances.

I don't think Luis is that good. He certainly doesn't seem as highly rated within the game as some people claim. Atletico didn't seem to cry over losing him and he wasn't picked for Brazil in the world cup. Now he's stuck on the bench behind the Spanish Kieran Gibbs at Chelsea. He had one really good season in his career and decided to move. Bad idea in retrospect, probably.

Silva deserves to be in there somewhere. I'd still have Aguero over Costa too. Alderweild is a bit trendy, He missed half the season and Fonte has been just as good whether its with Alderweild or Yoshida.,

How close is it really? One man has 55% of the vote in a six-man final. The people have decided. He has clearly had a spectacular first season. Speaking of fright, what is scary is that Sanchez still has a lot of room for growth, particularly around how he integrates with the rest of the team. If he can click with Giroud, Ozil and Ramsey, then we have true terror on our hands.

Of course Monreal should be there, he has been our most consistent performer of the season. Performed admireably and better than Per in an ususual position, and has been one of our best and most decisive players in our big away wins, City, United, Monaco, etc.

Giroud, Coq, Özil have only played for like 3 months each, while Kos hasn't been his former self. None of these should be ahead of him.

Top 3 should be Nacho, Alexis, and Santi so far.

Personally, I think Monreal's play has been overrated by quite a bit. He has improved defensively this season, but he is still average 1 v 1, and he doesn't block enough crosses. That happens IMO because he is afraid to get tight to players once they are facing him; he is clearly wary of being done for pace. Not a bad strategy at all, but on the flip side it allows wingers to cross the ball with relative ease.

Luis was top class last season and looked a capable LB for a few years now. Don't think Scolari not picking him (and even worse, Miranda) says much about him as a player, looking at how Brazil fared defensively.
