I don't understand the criticism of how the game was managed tactically tonight, I get the frustration, but I don't think there were any tactical masterstrokes that could have turned the key, or changed our good to decent goal scorers into goal conjuring geniuses.
In contrast the first leg was managed abysmally.
If we'd played that home tie as we played tonight we'd be comfortably anticipating the QF.
Given the way the tie was after the first leg I think Wenger was right in his team selection and even the Ramsey for Coquelin sub was a good move. After that though 2 like for likes wasn't brave enough. We needed that 3rd goal and could afford to concede but we didn't create enough late on and we didn't give up a serious chance. He should've e risked more. Gibbs for Monreal especially was a sub you make at 2-1 up, not in such desperate need of a goal.
It was only good whilst we continued to pass the ball around looking to create space for Rambo to exploit as another runner.
It ceased to be relevant as soon as we switched to play more direct and hoof the ball into the area, as we then lacked the ability to challenge for the 2nd ball/half clearance, let alone to win it back quickly to look to exploit any potential weakness.
It all became far too easy for them to sit back, stay compact and clear their lines.
