Why not play a genuine 2 man attack with Walcott/Sanchez playing as a genuine SS off Giroud/Welbeck?

Then there are no lessons identified and nothing will be learned, as it hasn't these past years despite the changes to the players.
We played the same way with the same lack or result/outcomes in the loss A v ManU when RVP scored to equalise Shrek's dive for a trailing leg pen, and Diaby's own goal.

I'm not actually bothered by being knocked out, it just frustrates me that we're still not over having one or two absolutely horrific performances every season, no matter how well we do the rest of the year

The horrific performance against Monaco came out of the blue too, I don't think anyone envisaged us being so ludicrously bad at the Emirates.
We've been solid enough there all season.

The tie was lost in the 1st leg, was going to be near enough impossible against such a well drilled team. Didn't think much of Monaco, on the day we showed we are a class above them but it was too much in the end. Also over two legs we missed probably 4 guilt edge chances, you can't miss that many chances in the CL.

2 legs against Monaco and we draw and go out. Same as when we draw Bayern or Barca. Wenger just can't manage the 2 legged on knockouts. We should never have failed so stupidly in the first leg. It was amateur hour tactically. Tonight needed top tactical manoeveres at precise times. Wengers just not capable of that.

We've consistently been one of the better teams for scoring late goals and turning over a deficit. That's never been a problem for us ever since we moved to the Emirates.

Our problem has ALWAYS been either throwing away a lead or making a mess of a straight forward affair

the question i have is, did wenger tell the team to push forward recklessly in the first leg? or did they players lose their head?

the bottom line is, we need a leader on the pitch to organize the team when things get chaotic. wenger can't do it from his technical area. mertesacker isnt a leader. coq is the closest thing we have to a leader right now.

that should be area #1 to address in the summer. just buy hummels and give him the armband.

Players can't handle the pressure, that's why we keep losing the first leg.

Last year we were all over Bayern and then Ozil missed the penalty and the entire team collapsed.

First leg was a joke, second leg we put in a good performance. Tactically we were spot on and had enough chances to score a third goal. Absolute nonsense to blame this second match on Wenger.
