Personally I'd also at look at someone like Aymeric Laporte, not as refined but the kid has outrageous talent. Then there is also Varane at R.Madrid, he can't be happy on the bench there. Obviously those two are not as good as Hummels but have the potential to be better and already playing at a very high level. I don't think we'll be in for a high profile CB unless Per leaves in the summer.

Thiago Silva has had a very disappointing season for PSG too,to be fair. Undisputed best CB? Not for me.

IMO easily the best CB in the world, showed it at the World Cup and showed it against Chelsea and Barca in the CL. Guy is wasting his talent in France imo

Silva and Hummels are a bit similar in my opinion. One is underrated because he's stuck in France; the other one's underrated because he's half-fit and stuck at a badly struggling Dortmund side. Both of them are top three in the world in my opinion. Only Ramos is challenging them.

I think what this season had really shown, if anything, is that Hummels really is the heart of the Dortmund defence. Subotic, who some considered to be the more structured defender, has been shown up badly without him. Hummels is the organiser in addition to being the better player. Signing him right now would be akin to signing Sol Campbell back in 2001.

I think John Terry is better than all of them - horrid as it is to say that

Hummels would definitely give us an edge over every PL team in that we'd have a ball playing defender who's able to pick a pass, doesn't go full retard to play keepy uppy in the middle of the park like Kompany either. He has a very high ceiling although his injuries and Dortmund's general form have weakened him considerably.

Although I can't stand him Boateng has been far better than Hummels for at least a year now. Only Silva has been as good or better, Ramos on his best is top class but has too many braindead moments for me.

And not a single one except for Carvalho who ended up in England proved to be worth more than £5 million. Remarkable.

Indeed, although Raul Meireles was pretty good and might be the exception.

It's so ironic the players they sold to other leagues have become far better players than the ones who came to England. Still astonished when I looked at the figures for Paulo Ferreira, Bosingwa and Anderson.

Just looking at that table makes me want to buy Porto. They're a better business proposition than Newcastle or Ajax, other teams that pride themselves in player trading. Impressive scouting by them.

As I said before, Liverpool are going into that zone we were in a few years ago. They're playing well with some interesting players but not enough money to compete with the largest clubs. Even worse for them was that run last year where Suarez helped inflate some other players' egos and reputations. Now they'll all want more. Liverpool can't suddenly present Sanchez/Ozil level players either. They'll spend the next few years selling and raiding teams like Southampton and Marseilles for players.

I'd take Henderson as our midfield signing at the right price. I quite like him as a player.

Poor man's James Milner.

id still take hummels. he's had a kompany-esque form curve, but ive seen enough to know he can be outstanding, and a good leader. lets face it, they dont make cbs like they used to. hummels is as good as we'll get

Hummels is comfortably as talented as any defender who's ever played for us.

Not defending wise, he isn't. He is a better ball player than pretty much all of them, but that defending thing is sort of important in my book.

Especially defending wise.

I really cant see us getting another CB, unless Mertesacker leaves. And I highly doubt that will happen next season.
