Schneiderlin is more of a box to box guy anyway. He's a Ramsey light. Which makes me want him a lot. But realistically he's not going to start for us, which makes £30 million a wee bit expensive. If we're thinking about spending that sort of money we might as well go all in and grab an amazing player instead of a solid benchwarmer.
Other clubs transfer thread 2015 (Latest: Man City sign De Bruyne)
Wenger found a very good DM in Arteta, a player he should have bought much earlier.
Some people just think, oh Schneiderlin, from another not-so-prominent PL club, automatically means he is an average player, overpriced which we do not need.
I think he is easily up there with all the good midfielders available here and there. By some people's logic, they would never have signed Carrick/Lampard from West Ham too.
Can see wengs going for Gundogan and given him an Arteta type role
i'd prefer we buy a solid but unspectacular defensively minded midfielder who is comfortable coming in and starting 20 games in all competitions and playing the role that coquelin is playing now. not some adventurous box to box mid who is undisciplined. and then we should spend the rest of our transfer budget on hummels and a world class goalkeeper or hummels and reus.
Just get Reus and Schneiderlin and call it a day.
Rex, what midfield would you play against Chelsea, if we had Schneiderlin and Reus in the squad?
I'm asking because I've read you write that Ozil should play in the middle, that any midfield without Ramsey in the middle is useless, and that we should play with 2 DM's against the top teams, so do you plan to play a diamond midfield or something?

How can he dwell? The transfer window isn't even open yet! Also with the form Coquelin is in I am starting to have doubts as to whether we should be spending big on Schneiderlin.
Jazz, we need to replace Flamini and Arteta. Those guys are shot. One of them definitely needs to walk out of the door this summer and the other next summer. Would also like to bring Schniederlin so that we can stop playing Cazorla centrally. It's really one of my pet peeves about the current team. Cazorla was massive in the City game, but he really does not give us enough fit in the centre of the park. We tried this shit with Nasri. It doesn't work. Put a real man in the middle

I didn't say he is dwelling. I said he's going to dwell and I have a valid basis to say that because he has dwelled on buying in that position for years. Unfortunately people have a habit of taking a 3-4 month patch as a player becoming world-class. While I'd be happy to see Coquelin maintain his form I wouldn't be gambling a season away on him being fit and in form. Maybe that's just me.
He hasn't dwelled on buying in that position per se. It is the lack of decent cover.
Arteta was a top buy and he got Flamini immediately because he knew the position needed cover. Problem was Flamini is cack.
*dwelt
Dwelled is used too, no?
Of course, I was just taking the mick.
Wenger has dithered when it comes to this role IMO. He bought Arteta after the 8-2, which means the signing was last minute. He did the same with Flamini in that he didn't complete the transfer until the season was well under way. I reckon that if Wengs is serious about getting a CM in and he is indecisive for two months, then the best players likely to move this summer will already have moved, and we will end up with a younger Flamini.
Being proactive with Bielik though innit
I've never seen Bielik play but he has the look of a top player. You know? It's his face and the sheer size of him.
Buying Arteta last minute probably meant we got him for the price we did.
Our financial position is very different now. If Wenger wants a CM I think he will get the player early.
We do need cover/ competition for Coquelin if Arteta isn't in Wenger's plans.
Bielik at 17 shouldn't even enter into the equation for another couple of years. Buying young, talented players for a relative pittance is always a good strategy, but after that the players should have to break into the big time on merit. Like Coquelin.
Pretty sure Wenger wants Arteta to stay for several reasons, and so do I.
