Oh come on Coombsy its crazy to accuse one player of not winning us games against top sides.
Minor sides okay he should get plenty of chances, if he doesn't thats down to our other players in midfield.
Against top sides theres usually little to choose between the players on both teams then thats where superior match tactics really come into it.
Thats where Wenger is found out time and time again.

It's not just one player, Biggus - it's 5, 6, 7 of them who inevitably come up short compared to the competition. Not having an up to code striker will hurt you a lot more than not having a fabulous leftback though.

Only because its the Giroud thread. Sanchez is the only attacker we've got who I'd back to put in a storming performance in a really big game. Regardless of tactics, etc, it'd just be nice to have a player that could really switch it on leading the line.

I know its a team sport and all, but striker is one of those positions that can make the difference with a bit of magic.

Yes, Wenger has committed tactical gaps, but our problems are structural. We don't have a coherent operating principle, nor do we have enough quality players. Imagine if we had Thisrry and Vieira to support Sanchez and Ozil. That would overcome some of Wenger's tactical limitations. We'd have a higher average standard and more likelihood of sealing points due to flashes of individual brilliance. Beyond Ozil and Sanchez, the kids are alright for fourth, but we need many more dons to be able to compete for the title and big ears.

I was more disturbed by the inference that he recognised that Giroud was slacking in training for years and didn't do anything about it till now.

The midfield that you mention has created several presentable oppurtunities for Giroud in big games and up-till a few months back he'd missed nearly all of them

The only thing Wenger had a need for was value and that's what it has always been about. Giroud represented value at his 9.6m release clause.

Wenger didn't have a need for a target man. He was quite happy to be dealing with value again with Higuain when he was available for 22m. When Madrid bumped up the price he looked for value again at Suarez with 40m. Had we brought Higuain there'd be little chance of both playing together IMO and Giroud would have ended up benched.

There were only 19 passes in a move that started from the keeper, that's about as direct as it gets short of resorting to van Gaals "forward passes"

We had 65% possession in the game because they couldn't get the ball from us or keep it when they did. We had 23 shots in the match because we spent a large proportion of it laying siege to their goal.

In matches against real opposition this season, we've typically played a conservative, counterattacking 4-1-4-1. Expecting to see more of that in the Champions League.
