Nobody doubts his quality at the near post. Finishing from other areas is a struggle for him.

He's been probably in his best form in an Arsenal shirt. He's done a lot of good work this season and scored in big games.

That said in terms of first choice forwards he'd be about 6-7th best in the league.

United, City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs have a better forward starting for them.

Doesn't matter if there are better strikers.
He has been here several years and is well versed with our system. He is a limited player but good at what he does and Wenger has now got the players to fill in the gaps. Sturridge is, clearly, the better player but his skillset may upset our balance.

How many top teams would Sturridge / Giroud start for assuming their known best form is their level?
We may be one of the few that pick Giroud but that's because we have had to develop our attack round him for several years. I would have backed Sturridge to have replaced persie quicker and we would not have had to buy your favourite player.

But oils ain't oils Tone, for some reason (God knows why) Wenger has decided that a big striker whose main attributes would include holding the ball up and heading is integral to our system (Adebayor to some degree Lord Bendtner Chamakh less successfully) and now Giroud.
Just thank Giroud he didn't buy Andy Carroll.....

Wenger's need for a target man only means Giroud is a better fit for us. I would still maintain that Sturridge would be chosen ahead of Giroud by most other managers as he has many more desirable attributes as a striker.

The problem with Giroud isn't that that he's a target man, it's that he's limited at running with the ball. He's still one of the best target strikers in Europe though. For example Benzema/Ibrahmiovic etc can play as a target man and run with the ball.

Benzema or Ibrahimovic cost a bomb though and we did not have that kind of money 3-4 years ago. Of course, in near future we should try and get a striker similar to their level, but they are so rare, unless you unearth a gem before anyone else discovers it.
