There are definitely strikers who are far more complete than Giroud, with pace, a better first touch, the ability to beat a man, create space, then shoot without relying on a supporting act.
The only thing that really matters, though, is that the players on the pitch create and convert chances, and that the defence doesn't concede.
It's more important and cost effective to get Welbeck, Walcott or another pace merchant to fitness and sharpness than it is to try to find an Übermensch. If Welbeck or Walcott were at maximum we'd have created two or three real chances in the second half yesterday.
In a lot of games you will have periods when you are on the ropes as a team. In those scenarios your wide men are usually deep down the pitch to help in defense. That's when you really need that out ball to your striker who can just turn the game on its head.
Remember when we played Chelsea at the Bridge earlier this season? Down the stretch there we really pegged them back, and their wide players were very deep. Fabregas gets some freedom, the ball over the top, Costa kills the game. Same thing when Henry scored THAT goal at the Bernabeu. Drogba did plenty of teams in exactly that manner too.
Giroud has plenty of strong points, but he is very reliant on his team mates in comparison with top class strikers in his own weight class so to speak. Having said that, he is having a top season, and has been vital in us going on this run we are on. I am still very confident that a team winning the PL or CL needs a better and more versatile striker leading the line.
