You know what's funny? How Wenger's biggest critics are Giroud's biggest fans. Yet you could argue the biggest change in Wenger's philosophy since his glory days is his appreciation for big, lumbering center forwards.
I must break the mould then because I'm a critic of both.
For me Giroud represents the Wengerball of the post Invincibles era = 1 touch short passing around the area,
which also means possession style playing in the opposition final 3rd,
which I loathe.
I also suspect that rather than looking to change/adapt towards the withdrawn style seen for the period v Citeh to the NLD, that this will prove to be no more than a means to an end for this season, and that AW will actually look to improve our capability to better execute his preferred possession style and we'll revert back to the system seen for much of the last decade.
AW will stay true to his vision for the remainder of his current contract both in terms of style of play,
and Giroud will remain as starting CF unless a bargain opportunity akin to Ozil/Sanchez presents at either CF and/or CB/DM to provide height & physical presence.
Not only do I think Aw is putting all his eggs into 1 basket again, but I also think that he is not getting the best out of either Ozil or Sanchez in doing so, despite each player possessing attributes AW wants for his style/execution. IMO it's not so much trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, but about using silk purses to make a better sow's ear.
