Why would we not want to keep Giroud as first choice when he is in the best form of his career and we have started him through far worse performances?

Is that relevant in the context of just acknowledging that it's great, and important, that he's currently scoring bags of goals and has improved even on his early form of last season?

At one point you just have to acknowledge that a player has improved to the point where his record speaks for himself and it says that he is world class. Giroud has the best minutes/goals ratio in the league now and he is imposing himself in every game. He is bordering on world class as a CF and that is a fact.

Whether he's classed as world class or not will be so irrelevant if he continues scoring at his current rate.

This whole WC thing - isn't that in essence a way of saying I don't like his playing style or technique regardless of the number of goals he scores?

Giroud has been world class lately. If he keeps it up, which is unlikely, of course he can be labeled world class.

He's had 3-4 great months I won't deny that and nobody can really. But that doesn't make a player world class. How many of you would say Harry Kane is world class? Yet he's got 30 goals for Spurs in a season at 21 years of age. Giroud needs to be scoring 20 league goals for a couple of years at least.

I'll consider Giroud world class if he keeps this form going till the end of next season.

He's 14 off Giroud's haul for Arsenal in one less year and on the wing.

That's the point. Alfonso says he won't be world class even if he continues like this.

The whole world class debate is fucking stupid because everyone has a different definition of what world class means. It's an ambiguous term that everyone kind of gets, but when you get down to the specifics nobody ever agrees on what it actually means and what the selection criteria is.

I was thinking this earlier. I don't like Giroud, let's be honest, but you can't hate on a guy who scores regularly. Also, Wenger was right about him as well, even if he took fecking ages to deliver.

I said before though, that I think the injury done him good. It means that he's come in to the business end of the season completely fresh.

IMO the bolded parts are exactly why we are always a frakking project under AW.
Not just the starting CF these past 3 seasons, but also the starting GK (Szczesny), a starting CB (Kos), 2 CMs (Rambo & Wilshere), LB (Gibbs), WF (Walcott), and we've added Ox, Chambers, Jenkinson, Bellerin, Gabriel, Gnabry to that list of development projects.

We couldn't have bought this version of Giroud three years ago (style preference aside, he's a top player), that's the bottom line. We can now that our financial situation has improved considerably, so this summer we better be in for top class, ready-made players in the positions we need.

It's only relevant when put into a clearly defined context - you need to know what you want before you can quantify it's relative worth.

For example IMO Giroud may well be the one of if not the best CF suited to playing this passing possession version of Wengerball when we are playing with numbers around the opposition area. However I don't want him as IMO he is ineffective in anything but that scenario, and likewise IMO this possession style Wengerball is ultimately limited in it's effectiveness against top flight teams.
Finally I don't consider Giroud as being good enough to be the starting CF when we don't dominate possession or position, and in those scenarios IMO his limitations detract from our effectiveness and performance, because we still look to play in the same manner.
If A v Monaco was the best of Giroud, then H v Monaco and A v Spuds were the worst.
