My point is that Giroud has to me shown regularly that his dwelling on misses holds him back to some degree, I didn't say he was "damaged mentally" just that he needs to keep playing, stop pausing.
I disagree with qs that it's just a "gallic thing", I do think he genuinely let's it get too much into his head.

I nor Qs never said that the French pout/shoulder shrug and the Italian hand wringing was common to both cultures, we just gave physical expression as an example of the sometimes very animated display of emotion that are similar in both cultures.
Obviously there is a huge crossover area too both within family connections and indeed regions in both countries, you should know the huge regional and cultural differences of a country the size of France, Giroud is from Grenoble down near the Italian border......

I have said, and I'll gladly say it again, that I much prefer the brand of football a team is capable of playing with a player with Welbeck's traits as opposed to a player with Giroud's traits. I have also previously said that Giroud is quite obviously in much better form than Welbeck is at the moment. Ev has it right in the sense that Welbeck has regressed compared to when he first got here.

However, my biggest concern right now regarding the CF position is that Giroud AND Welbeck are on the pitch at the same time quite a lot. Personally, I don't particularly agree with that, because I think Welbeck should mainly play as a striker in order to improve to be really useful for us. IMO he doesn't really have a future here as a wide player. At least not the way we play right now. In the form both Giroud and Welbeck are in right now, I'd have Giroud starting at CF in 2/3 games, and Welbeck in 1/3 games. It would help keep Giroud fresh, which to me is vital for him to be useful, and it would give Welbeck game time at CF to hone his skills in that position. If form shifts - then swing the ratio of games.

I agree, but Wenger rarely manages like this. We wouldn't be Arsenal if we didn't run our players into the ground.

WTF do you think this is, a charity training ground for Manc reserves?

Either he's good enough to start or he isn't, in which case he should benched loaned out or better still sold.

I can't fathom the logic here. By your description, what you refer to as our "tiki-taka" system's apparently so successful our striker should be embarrassed he doesn't score at least two goals every time he plays. How is this a reason to change it?

But then, we don't actually play that system. We're not a particularly high possession side in this incarnation, and we certainly don't have a dominant passing, pressing midfield that pins opposing sides back and retains the ball reliably. Feels like a lot of these criticisms are recycled from five years ago.

Giroud is a protected species and deserved to be dropped as much as BFG, just that AW needs Giroud so as to persist with the tiki-taka by numbers in the final 3rd.

Good effort in isolating games in order to prove your point Anzac but that's just not on. Giroud has 9 goals from 43 shots in the league which is a great conversion ratio compared to some relevant strikers out there. The wishlist king Cavani has 8 goals from 69 shots which is piss poor and before the inevitable "Giroud only takes close range shots" argument, both have similar ratio of shots in the box; around 3 out of 4 shots each. The top scorers in the league this season are Aguero - 17 goals out of 94 shots; Costa 17 out of 63 and Kane 14 out of 67 so Costa is the only superior striker at converting his chances.

You can dislike Giroud all you want but if you're gonna criticize him this season choose his hair, running style, stupid expressions etc. not his output in games as you can't win there. Oh and if you don't like target men direct the anger at Wenger for choosing that style of play as it sure as hell isn't Giroud's fault.

I just disagree that he redeemed himself v Everton when essentially the difference was that he had 1 shot on goal and scored, and he had the same output in front of goal so far as shots taken.

As for your last line I've said often enough that he's a symptom of AW's busted system.

Giroud is a bench striker for a top club. He's in good form though.

Welbeck has the physical characteristics to be a beast (Pace and Power) but not only does he lack intelligence but his technical attributes need a LOT of work. He wasted 2 seasons of his career and should have left when RVP went there. His touch is inconsistent, his finishing is suspect and he needs to develop an understanding on where to make off the ball runs. Additionally even though he helps the defence while running back & chasing defenders he loses the ball a lot by making poor decisions with regards to releasing the ball.

More and more he seems like a panic buy that was forced upon us when Giroud got injured long-term. Wenger's been completely negligent in getting a quality striker the last 2-3 years as well as a DM. Plenty of strikers who'd been better value for money than 16m 100k a week Welbeck.

Neither Giroud or Welbeck are good enough in a lone CF/ST system.
I'd prefer to play 4312 and drop the CF role with 2 goal scoring WF/STs.

I must admit i don't get the arguments here.
Nobody is saying Giroud/Welbeck are ideal and everyone agrees Giroud is the best we've got right now.
When all is said and done, we all know what is best for us in terms of results and, whatever the combination, it involves playing Giroud.
Welbeck, for all his attributes, has had his confidence badly bashed by the mind games tit managing manu now.
In the real world, he now belongs to us and we have to get the best out of him to get payback on the £16m we paid.
Giroud is in his prime but approaching the end of his career in top flight football whereas Welbeck is still a project which could go either way depending on circumstances.
Anywho it's Giroud's thread so i will end by saying i get irritated by Gooners who call him Jheerude instead of Jheerhoo.
How hard can it be to pronounce his name properly?

Not even sure what all the hubbub is about.

Everyone seems to agree that we need to get a better center forward in the summer yet some of the same people are 'defending' Giroud. I don't know what from but they're doing it anyway.

Or are there actually people who think Giroud can win us the title?
