The goals will probably start to come during the second half of the season. Watching Özil play right now I get the feeling that he's just getting started. He doesn't look like he's running out of fuel, he actually looks like he's about to kick into another gear.

Wenger needs to take a lot of credit. At Madrid Ozil racks up loads of assists because of the players he have, but right now at here Ozil is different class. He is a much better player all round and is genuinely world class, making everyone around him look good.

Pass for Walcott's goal was nothing special, but the movement to recognize that Yaya had pushed up and making himself available for that pass from Kos was typical Özil. For the second goal, the timing and weight of the pass for Giroud was sublime. Nothing but love for Özil.

His passes are part of it, but his touch is out of the world and encourages people like Kos to pass it to him there. There's almost no risk of him getting pushed over these days and the ball nicked so you see his teammates looking to pass it to him everywhere.

I feel the same. I want to say that he looks like he will physically last the whole season too, but obviously I wouldn't jinx us like that.

What really strikes me is how much he's improved defensively.

Not only does he work very hard to close down the players in possession and press high up the pitch, but he also does a lot of covering for other players. He is defensively aware to notice when a player is missing from his position and he just plugs the gaps.

It's impossible not to love him at the moment.

On both goals it was his positioning - up high, between the lines, close to the forwards - that made them happen. That's what separates him from other 10s, especially final ball merchants like Fabregas, Mata, etc.

What the fuck does that even mean? He also acts like Silva is the only midfielder that makes pre-assists by highlighting that part of his game, over Ozil? If that's the case, neither of them have anything on our Rosicky. Watching the Ozil vs Silva segment with Carragher and Henry on Sky was just embarrassing. Henry was specially cringe worthy, on Ozil: "stays away from the game" and apparently doesn't play any one-two 😆 It was obvious he was trying to think of something on the spot to say that would be in line with Carragher.

What he means is that Silva affects the game throughout whereas Ozil only affects the game in key moments.

Of course, he's just plain wrong. For a guy who 'turns' games rather than run them, look at Yaya Toure.

A proper analysis where you compare the players in a 90 minute metric I reckon Özil would be ahead in almost every category. I find it hard to believe that Silva averages more touches in the final third, more successful passes in the final third, and more key passes.

They have a fair few of the per 90 stats in the video. Silva's are somewhat comparable to Özil's with a notable dip on chances created. Silva's been absent a fair bit of course, so this season Özil is comfortably ahead of him on all the totals.

Stats aside, Özil is in otherworldly form at the moment, there's no contest between them.

I kind of agree with the statement in the sense that Silva does get more on the ball, either by design or because of the type of player he is. He is more like Cazorla in his style - more patient and will often move the ball even if it doesn't necessarily create space, but just to keep the game moving.

Almost all of Ozil's passes and touches, on the other hand, have a purpose.

Despite City having about 70 percent possession, Silva had three more successful passes than Özil. I really don't think Silva gets on the ball more than Özil if you use a bigger sample size either.

The chart that pops up after ten seconds of the video is for the PL this season with many stats per 90 minutes. Seems fair enough.
