On Ozil, I heard a podcaster mention that Orbinho said that he set a high for chances created in an FA Cup game this year with 9 vs Reading (ET and all). The previous high for this year? 8, set by Ozil as well.

He's getting to a point now where his detractors can't even dismiss him based on the numbers. Forget just the visual beauty like that trap, turn and pass midway through the first half or the sniper accuracy of the pass for Sanchez's first goal. This is why we watch the game.

I've seen people who wanted to sign Cesc, while keeping Özil. I've also seen people wishing we signed Suarez instead of Özil so that we could have Cesc and Suarez. The "people" you are talking about can't be too many. Özil also has played 1000 minutes less than Fabregas, we don't know if he would've continued like this. If the stats showed only Fabregas' 1327 first minutes this season, his numbers would be through the roof.

Coutinho aside, I think they're all pretty close in terms of impact. Not sure why Hazard's not there, think he has been the best in the league this season. Ozil's had it slightly easier in that maybe it's easier to perform well for half the season, whereas the others have played a lot more. (edit: what Quincy says)

When Fabregas got most of his 16 league assists in the first few months I think it was natural for people to get a little anxious about Ozil. But he has put the hours in, got his fitness up, looks stronger and now he's less reliant on others to have a big influence. Before the talk was about Ozil needing pace to work with. Sanchez is a good outlet but Ozil has a lot more energy compared to before. Looked a bit laboured before but now he's skipping past a defender quite easily.

Not that anyone should be bothered but the media will get on side if he/Arsenal keep winning more big games. Ozil's put in good performances recently at Monaco, Man Utd and Liverpool. Hazard is judged the best because he has often done something memorable in big games this season.

Fabregas has been mishandled by that fool Mourinho. But at this stage, it's neither here nor there between the two. They're both fantastic at what they do. The Cazorla in CM problem would just be further compounded if we had signed Fabregas. We'd be playing Fabregas central, Cazorla on the wing, Ramsey on the bench. Would be a mess. Maybe even Ozil on the wing and both of Fabregas/Cazorla central. Not the best use of managerial energy

Ozil was fantastic last season for the most part. Had a bit of a rough 2014 but still won the World Cup because even at his worst he's still better than most. I think the people who say Ozil went through this amazing transformation this season and was nothing like this last season just don't want to admit they were wrong. Cos you were.

And you don't have to take my word for it, or even pay attention to those stats. The matches are up on arse player in their entirety. Go back and watch to jog your memory. The guy was fantastic.

Difficult to argue that Fabregas has been mishandled IMO. If anything, Moron looked to get him to play the role deeper in midfield which many Arsenal fans felt was still his best after Wenger decided he was a forward. Many Arsenal fans believed that player no longer existed, but he has proven he is still well capable of controlling and dictating a game from deep, while still being extremely effective in his passing.

Except that Mourinho has now realised that only works when Cesc is at his best. He's had to move him forward recently because he was a liability deep in the middle. I think you'll see them sign a proper midfield partner for Matic this summer and Fabregas will be back to a mostly AM role.

Moron has always been super cautious against better opponents. At Madrid he mostly decided to strengthen his midfield with Pepe or Ramos when playing Barcelona, and at Chelsea he has drafted in Ramires/Mikel/Zouma to strengthen the midfield in the latter half of the season against better opposition.

I feel it is the same with Fabregas for Chelsea as with Arteta for us; in 90 percent of the games both players are more than good enough to play in central midfield, but against the very best teams one may have to make alterations.

Qs, my fear is he will do exactly that and go all out for Pogba. If need be, he'll find some silly team to fund it by buying Ramires for 30m pounds. :-)

Back to us though, the one thing to be thankful for is that Ozil is now at 10, not on the wing as before. Can't remember when exactly Wenger came to his senses on this

Qs/Rex, when I said misuse I was referring mainly to overplaying. I shared Fabregas 1st half vs 2nd half stats for his last few seasons with Arsenal and Barca. He gives you a lot more in the first half of the season. Knowing this, Mourinho should have used him more sparingly post December. Chelsea's players look spent. We really should be able to just overrun them with our fresher squad this weekend

That's what I think too, but I really can't be bothered to have this discussion again. I think he played pretty much the same way in 13/14 as he does now, though. He stands up better in challenges nowadays because he's improved physically, which also makes him more appealing to watch because he has extra energy to run and dribble, but he creates at the same rate and he found passing angles as often last year. He created 120 chances for Arsenal last season. That's always been where his strength as a player lies.

In the world cup he was the only German who started every game, despite being forced to deputise for Reus on the flank, because Löw is as well aware of that fact as Wenger is.

He's better now because the team is better now with the inclusion of Sanchez. Bring in a Reus or Bale and he will be better yet. He's one of those players whose game really benefits from having good players around him. Not because good players make him better, but that he is better able to serve guys who can make the right runs and are able to finish the chances he creates.
