I don't ever recall seeing Ozil so down after a game, even when Madrid lost in the UCL past few years. Don't know if you guys caught it, he literally dropped down onto the pitch and had to be consoled off the pitch by Flamini. He genuinely played his arse off tracking back in this game and trying to create chances, probably gutted by his miss late in the game.

He was decent, he definitely looks stronger even though he got bundled over a couple of times. Don't think going all out like we needed to after going 2 up suits his game, as at that stage the game loses it's structure which nullifies most of his strengths.

Ozil hasn't been close to the standards he's set himself but I do strongly feel he's been on an upward curve since Jan. With each game I feel he's exerting more influence on our play and also scoring/assisting more frequently.

He needs to do in the big games but he looks like he's on the verge of that now.

I too thought he was "decent" "neither spectacular nor shit" and "left a lot to be desired" and for $43m thats not fucking good enough.
Then he does the old Andre Santos half time shirt swap like the game is over and a good days work done.......

English pundits seem so precious. I wonder how much time match of the day have spent this year discussing cigarettes and shirts swapping hands before full time. Better not tell them that most of these players probably drink and indulge in sexual activity in-between games too.

Ozil went up in my estimations yesterday. He tried with everything he had and was devastated at the final whistle. Need to start seeing more from him in terms of his final ball and when crossing/shooting with his left foot but he's just such a smart footballer.

I open this thread and my jaw falls to the floor, honestly. What are you guys on about? How is shirt swapping an issue? Players do it all the time in Europe/South America and the more we get foreign players in the PL the more is a chance of this happening. Not to mention that this was actually a european cup match. Besides, as i said, it is not even an issue, for all we know all players may swap shirts inside the tunnel. To me it makes no difference if they do it on the pitch. Because you know why? Its not an actual issue worth talking about.

As for his performance. He was our top 3 best performers along with Koscielny and Giroud. Anyone who thinks otherwise clearly has a personal bias against him or should just stop listening to english pundits and stop letting them influence your opinions of him. Most of the pundits who still go on about him are of ex-mancs/scouse origins. Is it any surprise they refuse to acknowledge his quality? While not a peep comes out of their scummy mouths about Di Maria.

he was solid yesterday, and importantly he stayed aggressive in his passing and movement and tried to make things happen. we controlled the majority of the game with him midfield, don't see how that can be written off. i'm also seeing more fight from him when he loses possession, he chases back and puts his foot in often. opinions on him still vary wildly, some fans/outlets feel he was useless yesterday, others think he was good, the guardian called him excellent. he still mystifies spectators as much as opponents it would seem.

In the last 10 minutes I thought Özil was the only one who put some thought into what he was doing as opposed to just running around like a headless chicken. We had 10 players whose only thought was 'hoof', and then we had Özil.

I don't know your footballing cultural background Marv but Ozil has been here long enough to understand the British one, it is simply not done- It indicates a relaxed camaraderie with the opposition right in the middle of the battle, it signifies a lax approach to the seriousness of a situation where everything has yet to be resolved and its a spit in the face to us supporters who pay his wages to see him waltz off with the fucking opposition shirt draped around him at half time!
Either he is stupid or he lacks commitment to our club.
If anyone criticised Andre Santos (who i honestly think was stupid) for swapping shirts with van Persie and they refuse to criticise Ozil for doing the exact same thing they are rotten hypocrites- End of.

As regards his performance as nobody seems to actually read what I say about it I'll repeat- I thought he was average (like about 75% of us) neither good nor bad nor worth 43m.

Santos went up to RvP and asked him to swap, after having a horrific 45 minutes of underperforming. Ozil was asked for his jersey by Kondogbia, rather than the other way round. So it's understandable why fans aren't getting on his back.
