There is nothing invisible about what Ozil does, and just about the entire last page of this thread talking about how he "frustrates" people is just a load of subjective bollocks.
He works hard, scores goals, and provides assists. He's also entertaining and has outrageous ability on the ball. Whatever else people "read" into his "character" or what-have-you is just as idiotic as the people (like me) who don't like Ramsey whatever he does or doesn't do. It's preconceptions and bias, not objective realism.
I don't think so. I don't think anyone has failed to recognise that he's a quality player. However, I think the frustration comes from the fact that he's not really the dogs bollocks. There wouldn't be a varied consensus if he really was as awesome as some are suggesting. Everyone had Ramsey down as a world hero superstar veteran last season, because he was. It's only this season criticism has re-surfaced as he hasn't replicated last seasons showings.
Personally speaking, I was a big fan of Hleb and Rosicky, and I think Ozil belongs in that category at the moment. Two players who were polarising much like Mesut at the moment.
I think it's a matter of expectations. Ozil came with the reputation of someone who was going to be a great star. We know what a great star looks like, Alexis Sanchez was for half a season, Cesc Fabregas was for many years, Robin van Persie was in his final season, has Ozil performed to that level? Of course he hasn't. The question is, can he reach that level here? Who knows.
