Think it might be for the best too. Coquelin has hit the form of his life at exactly the right moment, and the kind of player we want to upgrade him with is probably not available in january. He might be able to keep it for the next couple of months if we encourage him.

I would have taken another winger though. Or even settled for not shipping Podolski to Inter.

Wenger is too lucky. Don't think he could even imagine Coquelin and Bellerin being this good.

Think we're done til the summer. We'll get Schneiderlin and Reus wrapped up early and then that'll be us done again

He deserves credit for their form as well. It's not all down to just luck.

Coquelin, who turns out to be miles better than Flamini, spent the season on loan until there was a crisis and we needed him back. Bellerin, our best RB, got his chance first when both Debuchy and Chambers were unavailable. Wenger was basically forced into playing these guys.

That's how a lot of players get their breaks. It's not that uncommon.

Mind you, if this was Chelsea or Man City, they'd probably have signed someone in the first week rather than give them that chance.

Exactly. We're 5th in February. Finally Wengers managed to get a bit of a team together, its not good enough. He should have had this shit sorted out by November but it was clear for most of the season he couldn't figure out how to balance things. If Arteta hadn't  been injured we'd all have spent the window crying out for a defensive mid.

Bellerin played against Dortmund and was pretty terrible.

Wenger played Bellerin and Coquelin when they were ready.

The whole team was terrible. Did you expect Bellerin to be the guy who stood up when no one else did? In his first start?

You lost me.

Anyway, Chambers was on the bench against Dortmund. Wenger did brilliantly to get these guys out of nowhere and get them to perform at the level they are right now.

Wenger said Coq wasn't sharp enough, and sent him on loan, and that he would call him back if he proves his worth.. rest is history.

Chambers had more experience than Bellerin in the PL, and we had just paid 16M for him. Chambers did overall well enough to keep an unknown quality away. Bellerin did get a few games early on too, and it's not like he was great, as he is now.

Wenger discovered these, and gave them the chance to shine. Whether he should've played them earlier, and more is a difficult debate, but pretty easy with hindsight.

I'm not saying that he doesn't deserve any credit. I'm saying that he left us short at RB and De after the summer window, and I believe that he didn't expect Bellerin and Coq to save our situation the way they have.

What is Wenger supposed to be getting credit for exactly here? This is a classic Wenger scenario where you push standards so low that any sort of good form is hailed as something worthy of immense praise by his followers.

Hey Mod, stop calling people Wengerites.

so is the deadline already passed?

thanks. looks like cuadrado will probably the most eye-catching deadline day announcement

Qs is right, a few decent wins and you're all shit sucking cock loving Wengerites.

Ease up Biggus.

Spare us the homophobic nonsense Biggus.

Jenga lout!

I don't give Wenger credit for stitching together a patchwork squad that has fumbled its way to fifth spot in February. It looks like we'll probably get top four ... at the moment ... but that's nothing to write home about.

Whatever credit goes to Wenger though, it's fantastic that Coquelin and Bellerin are turning it on. When a young player steps up it's mostly down to him and not to the manager. At the start of the season we had a debate as to whether Bellerin could even be counted among the ranks of our defensive options - that debate is now over.
