Your breast beating and guilt about being a European (descendant) gets a bit much at times Burnsy, of course European culture is not perfect its caused terrible things, but its also brought some great things.
What, like the things I mentioned in my original post on the topic? If I'm asked to elaborate on one part of a sentiment it doesn't exclude the rest of it. All I have said is that the pro-European, pro-western propaganda in our media ought to be leavened in our minds by our knowledge of European and western history. Which—not to flatter you—in your case, is extensive.
The point is motivated by the constant discussion of the "terrible things" that Islamic ideology allegedly causes, which are far lesser in scale and less global in magnitude than what "European values" have produced, and in fact are still producing.
As you know, I don't believe that Islamic ideology is a sufficient condition for IS, nor do I believe the philosophers of the Enlightenment, or Christian faith were sufficient conditions for Europe's colonial expansion. We need to look a bit deeper at what drives historical development, it's as simple as that.
