Although we don't stand much chance, it could be interesting to see how we do this season. We've got a very different sort of lineup going forward than in previous seasons.

But let's just get past Monaco first.

Looks like Monaco are indeed a half decent side.
They are actually sure of how they want to play and they stick to it.

i did think they looked pretty damn sound in the emirates cup, southampton-esque, but obviously didn't read too much into it being pre-season and all. once again they showed their ability to keep shape and play on the counter.

we now shown we can be beat by teams that press us, or teams that sit back. that's not good

We had 4 or 5 clear cut chances last night And that's despite being really poor.

We got 2 and a clean sheet against the eventual winners a couple of years ago. Also we dont need a clean sheet.

Maybe if we hadn't conceded the 3rd goal but not now. We're just not good enough.

We've performed better in the second leg when qualifying seemed like an impossible task in previous years.

Call me crazy but we might have a chance here. Monaco really aren't that great, they might allow us to do what Bayern and Milan just barely avoided.

But we always play better in the 2nd leg when it doesn't matter any more, you are right that Monaco are average but we are truly rancid in the CL, lucky its nearly over imagine what a Bayern or Madrid would have done to us......

Monaco will just shut up shop - even of we scored an 2nd,
and we're not good enough to unlock them playing tiki-taka, and they won't give us the space to play on the counter,
and we lack the ability to batter them either physically or with intensity.

Monaco tried to shut up shop all night yesterday and we still should have scored at least 3. Bottom line is that we are well capable of putting 3 past this team. They will most likely try to play in a similar manner, but they are just not that good at it if yesterday is anything to go by.

Those teams dominate possession and allow us to hit on the break, Monaco doesn't.

They will probably have their best players back in time for the return leg anyway.

The stats are definitely not in our favour since Monaco hasn't conceded a single goal at home and they have only conceded 3 since November there in all competitions.

Spot on, 3 is putting it lightly. Aside from the 1 we scored we missed 2 open goals and another 4 clear cut chances. And this is despite the fact that we were pretty shit.
