This is the first time I feel like we have a chance of winning the damn thing since 2008.

Our defence can sit back and defend for the most part and we have dangerous counter players. Only way an English side can win the competition.

We can barely string two passes together under pressure from the opposition and our manager hasn't got a clue.

Since we lost to Man Utd at home back at the end of November which crowned our poor start to the season.

We've won 15 of our next 19 games in all competitions.

I don't think we'll win it, no siree, but I think we now have a chance again.

Good defending along with class counter attacking players makes it all possible of course. Biggest problem is that we are too damn inconsistent when it comes to our defending.

You've said it there. Our set up is pretty random. We're neither this nor that. The team has no identity. That's why we've been so badly exposed at times this season.

On a good day, we can match up with some of the best teams. But we can also look completely useless against a mediocre opponent.

we wouldn't suddenly become great a passing if we were set up another way. we play this way because we're shit at passing.

I'm with Est; this team is a mess. Wenger doesn't know how to make it work the way he wants it to.

Only thing I would say is that it can all change very quickly.

i'd agree with that. hard to see the value of our 'set-up' other than we have a few very good individuals in the first 11. teams are setting the tempo against us on regular basis, and we're not particularly good at soaking up the pressure. we fuck up simple counter-attacking opportunities as well. i've seen a few people alluding to this all being part of some plan, which i really don't agree with

We've played three tough games in this stretch - Spurs, Southampton and City. We had a fantastic win at City, although it is worth pointing out that it was part of a five game winless streak for the Citizens. Against Spurs and Saints, we were rubbish. This isn't the proof of a team that can do it against the very best in Europe. We couldn't even win a mediocre group. We should take Monaco but, thereafter, we need to pray for a favorable draw to get to semis. This might be Wenger's worst team offensively due to our inability to keep the ball and create coherent attacks. And it's been the same regardless of which three we play in midfield.

Starting the season off with a ridiculous unlucky run offensively and a GK who didn't make saves has skewed perception wildly. This is the best post-Fabregas team by miles and I'd say we're the second best team in the league and every objective metric that I'm aware of agrees. Note that these are the same metrics that indicated that we were grossly overperforming this time last year.

At the start of the season I said that I don't expect us to challenge for the league but was excited about our CL run due to our counter attacking potential with the likes of Sanchez and Ozil. That optimism is gone after seeing how incapable we are when facing high pressing teams. Against the likes of Liverpool, Spuds and Southampton we were unable to string couple of passes together and if you think these sides are good at pressing wait till we face the likes of Bayern or Atletico. There are about 4-5 teams that are easily a level above us and we have no realistic chance of beating them over two legs. We have about as much chance of winning it as the likes of Monaco.

Exactly. As soon as we meet a half decent side we'll be knocked out.

Monaco fall into the less than half decent category then, I hope 🙂
I think we have an outside chance of CL glory, probably depends on how strong we are for our home legs against better opposition (if we get past Monaco), and the timing of those home legs.
Always prefer the home tie first.
