Doesn't have to, he can do a lot more with the ball, and control our play from the deep to a great level with Ramsey going up and down the field in the B2B role tackling everyone.

Much prefer that than our current set-up with Santi having to play deep because Coquelin's playmaking skills are non-exsistent.

Schweini doesn't usually play the deepest midfield role though or try to dictate play from deep. He's the one usually going up and down the field.

He can do it - it's just not his natural game.

He did that in Bayern's treble winning season, and Germany's WC win. With Guardiola he has been running more into the box, especially with Alonso pulling the strings.

I think there was an element of fortune in signing both Ozil and Alexis-

Ozil because obviously Moyes didn't feel he needed and AMC only to get Mata 6 months later.

Alexis because of City's FFP limits and United being out of the Cl.

I don't think Ramos going to United is totally impossible though. It's unlikely but anything can happen in football. United is back in UCL and is still a huge name in football. Not to mention their ability to pay wages very few other clubs in the world can is a huge advantage for them.

If reports are correct about Saints wanting 25-27m then I can't see AW pursuing any interest, let alone making any offer to negotiate.

There was definitely an element of luck involved, but any top class player we sign is going to fit a couple of criterias. It's going to be someone on a position where better clubs are well-stocked, such as Alexis, or someone who moves for extraordinary reasons that are more closely related to Wenger, like Özil. It's probably going to be someone who moves from a better club too, thus taking a few top clubs out of the equation.

That's the difference between Arsenal (and United) and Bayern/Barca/Chelsea, basically. They can sign whoever they want as long as the player is willing to move. We need a number of factors to work in our favour.

Actually, I have to agree there.

People seem to forget that about two seasons ago, United Lost Fergie, and brought in David Moyes. And they were out of the top four. Which top player in his right mind wants the uncertainty of all that shit under David Moyes?

Van Gaal has a much stronger profile as a manager and with them back in the Champion's League, United are essentially back in the saddle as one of the top teams in Europe (in terms of player attraction). And they have the financial muscle too.

I'm glad for our stability, and that we can finally compete with the top teams financially to an extent, but make no mistake about it, United are back in the reckoning.

I think United are still the bigged club in England and that they're the biggest draw. It's not as clear cut as t was 5 years ago but it's still there.

The transfer window just opened.

If the rumors of the RVP to Turkey move are true, then they are probably in for a top striker as one of their priorities this summer.

And I'm willing to bet good money that they will get one.

Yep. The only reason they're struggling to sign top players is because they're already at top clubs. If they finished outside the top four maybe it would have been different.

And despite finishing outside it last season they still signed big stars.
