ospina plays GK sensibly. def keeps his spot unless he shows otherwise. chesney just isn't that good - i've been saying for a long time that he's just an avg PL keeper, and it's no surprise that we haven't missed him at all. even chesney's shot-stopping has been pretty meh, and that was his calling card when he first arrived.

Well they can, he's hardly faced a decent attacking threat, Coq Ram and the defence are very solid at the moment.

His distribution is a huge upgrade on Szczesny though, thats one thing.

Szcz needed to be dropped after the Southampton game, good decision by Wenger.
Ospina seems to have the trust of the players ahead of him, all good so far.
Up to Szcz to learn from Ospina and improve.

Even if Ospina has not been exposed yet, i see no reason to want Szczesny back. Ospina has dealt with everything that has come his way so far and he looks a better keeper than Szczesny ever did.

I always dread a cock-up when Szczesny is in goal. I guess the defense has the same feeling and that's why they don't seem none too assured.

Lots of amateur psychology here I can see. Our defense seemed absolutely fine last season with Sneezey in goal, and as a result we kept the most clean sheets in the PL. I guess I just don't buy the explanation that all of a sudden everyone at the back is playing like the Keystone cops because of Sneezey.

How about the explanation that when Sneezey was in goal Per looked VERY dodgy for a long time, we hardly ever played the same back 4 two games on the trot, Chambers was absolutely atrocious defensively at RB on many occasions, that we had an LB at CB who had to learn the job as the season progressed, and that Koscielny was well rusty and downright poor in his first few games when coming back, and half injured to boot, and let us also not forget that Coquelin came in straight from lower league football and was not fully in tune with the others?

Ospina has handled himself well in the games he has played, and I think the Villa game was his best and most assured of the lot; however, it is a bit rich to suggest that our defenders have picked up some form BECAUSE of him. I'd say that more than anything Ospina is the one benefiting from coming in at a time when we finally were able to get some consistency in the selection of our back 4, Kos getting into the swing of things, and Per finally picking up some form.

Still, there is no excuse to his performance at Southampton (or his alleged behaviour after it) and he has rightly been dropped for it and there's no reason to drop Ospina despite the circumstances. Ospina stays.

Rex' post addresses the people making the argument that Schez is shit and that Ospina is great, without considering the contribution of a now solid midfield base and the return of the first choice CB defensive pairing.

Has nothing to do with whether he was rightfully or wrongfully dropped. Most agree that his behavior and recent form has been poor

If Szczesny is as good as some of us thought he would be, this competition will be the making of him as i thought this guy was a reincarnation of dominant Schmeichel as a kid but his development has been disappointing.

He's been dropped now so as such this thread, asking whether or not he should be dropped, has run it's course.

If you guys want to discuss Ospina's influence on the back four versus Szcz's perhaps you can start another thread?

The defense didn't look fine, and i'm sure you know what im talking about.

Dont care about Ospina. I'm keeping an open mind about him and let's see how good he is. But i know Szczesny is not good enough, i've seen enough of him.

Szczesny is poor whenever he's exposed, it's been a problem from the start with him that he never even attempts to make the saves he has no right to make. If the defense in front of him is good he does well, if it's not he ships 5,6,7,8 goals.

Things is it's not even that hard for not very good keepers to look amazing when they have a lot to do. We see it all the time. De Gea this season, Almunia against Barcelona, Jaaskelainen almost everytime he plays against us. The list goes on and on. A keeper is supposed to look at his best when he has a lot to do. Szczesny is the opposite.

He's not a very good shot stopper, he's okay in the air and he's downright awful at coming off his line. To cap it all off he's terrified of the big stage.

And yes he did have a pretty good season last season but one in almost 5 is nowhere near good enough.

He's been poor in general this season, but really ludo? That's not a fair assessment at all.
